What are the origins of your beliefs? Do you believe genuinely or ostentiaiously/superfically?

I am a Christian because of the dedication of people throughout time and history to preserve it. I am Christian because of my anscestors who were slaves and when learning of Christianity saw the great text that it is, used it as motivation through songs to help get them over terrible slavery. I am a Christian because nearly 2,000 years ago, The Lord decided to do something selfless and died for everyone's sins. I am not a Christian soley because of my parents, but I am a Christian due to the struggle, sacrifice, and the determination and dedication of people who love God.
Because it feels right. That's not really a logical justification, I know, but that's why I don't try to force it on anyone else.
But your a Buddhist aren't you?alexside1I take some philosophical inspiration from Buddhist doctrine, and even then, only sparingly. So, no, I'm definitely not a Buddhist.
True faith , some of the people who chose atheist would probably laugh at it but I saw the difference that it made in my life , I experienced it , when I was young I used to see things and then it stopped , I had nothing now I drive a brand new cayenne turbo , live in a penthouse , etc.Of course that all happened throughout the years , maybe it lakcs science yeah , but I don't laugh at the lack of faith , so i truly respect each and every religion or lack of , and expect the same.
I had nothing now I drive a brand new cayenne turbo , live in a penthouse , etcRoOodriGowWWhat does a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and a penthouse have to do with religion? Or your involvement with it?
I voted the 3rd option, although I think the 4th option is a little funny to be honest...
For me I believe in God because it makes the most sense to me I guess, one thing I don't like though is that alot of people on here assume if you belive in God your anti science or something like that. I have no problem with Evolution or anything like that, the big bang is no problem with me, I simply believe that God guided/had a hand in it. Most scientific discoveries only strengthen my faith.
I have faith I guess in some divine holy being beyond our comporehension, I don't believe in a so much "physical" god, I believe God has no body or appearnce. Anyway I guess I believe in God because I have had things happen to me that I can't really explain without something else involved, not saying that it was supernatural or anything like that, it wasn't. Just odd circumstances that come up in my life, and somehow odd ways of solving them. I can't really explain it I guess....
I believe god and angels are misinterpretations of ancient visitations from an extraterrestrial race.valium88Sorry... I just had to.
[QUOTE="RoOodriGowW"] I had nothing now I drive a brand new cayenne turbo , live in a penthouse , etcfoxhound_foxWhat does a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and a penthouse have to do with religion? Or your involvement with it?Well , we ( me and my family ) strong believe that God gave us some opportunities , firstly the simple act of having faith helps keeping you on the line , that's good , but not enough , so what happened to us were many situations that one could call 'luck' i don't call them luck I can them God's work , and it was through them that from a mere 6 thousands dollars which was ALL we had that we came to this and help many others , so , in our view by helping us and thorugh us , people that could properly embrace that opportunity , that we can help many others.
As for your last question implying fraud in the collect of money , yeah some churches really do use the collected money for particular interests , i despise them , and unknowingly gave my money to one , but no , nothing I gained as through my involvement with church , actually , my only involvement is giving money to the ones I know their work so I can help them to be a better place , with better instruments , installations , etc.

"I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."Mathew 19:23-24
Just sayin' wealth is not a Christian virtue so attributing it to God seems a little suspect.
I like your beliefs and respect you for not denying science. Famous scientists like Newton, Galileo, Mendel, were all deeply religious, and saw scientific discovery as a way to appreciate God's creations even more.I voted the 3rd option, although I think the 4th option is a little funny to be honest...

You forgot "I believe based on reason" or "Philosophy" in your poll.
I wouldn't say I have much of what people call faith, but God's existence just makes sense to me.

Well I'm not the orthodox type , I had sex before marriage, ate whatever I was supposed not to eat , what I believe is that this was written in a different time where in fact the rich man was an evil one , you probably know , the richiest the most evil it was , then again you can't forget the protestant view , God rewards those who work hard , also I don't keep all the money to me , many benefit from it.Also I'm not attribuing wealth , wealth came from me , the opportunity came from him , so i could help others.

I am agnostic, because I believe both sides to be "wrong" about how the earth/universe originated; they might be "right" in the long run, but no one is really sure right now how the world originated. No one has proved/disproved God right now, so it is ridiculous to call yourself a "gnostic" anything.the_plan_manI don't understand agnostics. No one can prove or disprove a negative. What does your reason tell you? To be agnostic re. the Christian God because of lack of proof one way or the other, you can say the same for the Great Spaghetti Monster.
Picked the 3rd option, genuine faith i'd argue.
That said i don't take every Imam's word as gold or as absolute truth. I make my own mind up and interpert religion my own way.
Parents raised me to be Muslim, i waffled when i was in my teens, i'd call myself a Diest for a time, end up coming back into Islam more on my own terms.
and i'm an engineer working on my master's, so i'd hope having a degree in the hard sciences would refute the idea that those who are religious are inherently 'dumber' then a non-religious person. Or are just simply sheep.
EDIT:
While i may call myself a Sunni, should also add i've found great interest in Sufi sect of Islam as well as the teachings of the Bahai faith. and to be brutally honost, if there was ever a religion or doctrine i'd incorporate or convert to it'd be of those two. Still need to learn more about them.

Praise be to Great Spaghetti Monster..... or Jebus.
I used to be old shool christian, thanks to my parents. These days its more spiritual then religious. More about whats going on within myself, rather than whats going on within church. I just had to start thinking outside the square and have an open mind, not a fearful mind.
For all of the people who don't know what "begging the question" really means... the title of this thread is a great example.
