This would be better suited for the "Ask the Mods" forum.gobo212Yeah. I don't understand the reasoning behind many of the rules. I don't believe there is much reasoning behind the bizarre rules. They just make the restrictions because they can. I don't try to understand their rules because there isn't much to understand. That's just the way they are. I just do my best to follow them.
They take space away from the overdone generic religion topics and other various boring things._Margulis_you're correct.

Why do you even come here if we bore you so much?
Because I'm bored.
If it's just generic homework that you can't do because you just weren't paying attention in class then I can understand, you should be doing it yourself and it doesn't promote much discussion, however if it's something like question you have to actually think about and puzzle through or ideas for an essay (such as argumentative essays) then I think it should be allowed, they can promote some interesting discussion, but then I guess I don't make the rules.

You can do that.

Just formulate the post in a way that it isn't so obvious that its homework.
If it's a literary essay There's a publication dedicated to cheaters. Cliff's Notes. Just skim that then paraphrase it. But for everything else... you must have a friend that will let you examine his work.
I don't condone cheating but I know most people lie therefore most people cheat.

I do believe some of you do. But the thing is... you have to figure out a way to get the grades. In this world very few people respect honesty, so it really doesn't matter if you earned the grades or cheated. It's an elitest system so why should someone feel guilty about cheating? Nobody is gonna remember nor care anyway. Honesty always helps someone else and hurts the person foolish enough to be honest. They don't care about the C student. A C student is just an inferior student. A loser. They're not gonna help you. So by being honest you're just hurting self and making it easier for them to weed you out.You may not be a studious person, but you can be a resourceful person. Do you wanna a career or not?

I agree completely. Most things that are easy to cheat are learned just as well by copying. You don't really learn anything from writing an essay. But math is something you have to do on your own.

I completely disagree with your assertion that you don't learn anything from writing essays. I have learned a great deal from having to put together thought provoking, well thought out essays. If you don't learn anything from writing an essay you are not doing it right.

"Wow! I'm so awesome at writing opening sentences to my paragraphs". Is that what you learn? What do you learn?
"Wow! I'm so awesome at writing opening sentences to my paragraphs". Is that what you learn? What do you learn? GodLovesDeadFirst of all, you need to research whatever it is that you're writing your essay on. That'll teach you many thing about the topic. Secondly, you learn how to be analytical. Thirdly, you learn how to evidence things and provide a judgement.
I don't think you're really supposed to learn from essays, they're more to show your teacher what you have learned I think.bean-with-bacon
Well, you do learn good writing skills and logical organization of thought by writing essays. In fact, the logic involved in creating your arguments, associating facts with them, and organizing all your thoughts into a cohesive form is far more important than the topic material itself when you get right down to it.

Researching it and writing it are two different things. You could copy an essay and you'd still learn what they research. Writing an essay doesn't teacher you how to provide evidence and judgement because thats what an essay is is evaluating. An essay doesn't directly teach any of these things.

Practice makes perfect. Not when it's objective. I've used the same essay structure since middle school and I've aced all of my essays. I can safely say I haven't learned anything at all. You can always just do the research and not write an essay.
