Why aren't there laws regarding insect abuse?

I mean, where did we draw the decision that killing a dog is horrible, but killing a fly on purpose, hunting one down and squishing it is fine? I understand that they're harder to watch out for, but if you take an ant farm and set it on fire, why isn't it insect abuse?

Most insects are vermin or pests, dogs for example are pets or companions. That and insects aren't really known to be mentally complex beings, so it's not like cruelty is really an issue. Besides how would this frivilous law be enforced?

Although insects have nerves they don't have the same kind of nervous system as mammals/reptiles/etc, they can feel certain sensations but they can't feel pain.

I have this feeling insects really don't have a self of awareness or any real measuraeble intelligence where as dogs can feel emotions, are intelligent, know they are alive.

There is also the fact that there are how many times as many insects as dogs? One city probably holds more insects than the world does dogs. It is literally impossible to avoid accidently killing something that is 1 1 billionth your size. It's easier to avoid killing a dog.

I personally tend to care more about dogs then I do my fellow man. I don't think I could really tolerate a society where killing dogs for enjoyment was okay.

Come on this is ridiculous, it's a bunch of bugs who cares. They have no brains or emotions, and for every one I squish a billion zillion will pop up.

I only go out of my way to kill bugs that are indoors. Other than that, it seems a bit mean to hunt them down and squish them.

you usually don't accidentally step on a dog and kill it. besides, nobody cares about insects :P
