Here in Canada we start learning French in first grade.megagene
You also have two official languages.
We had mandatory Japanese class when I was in elementary school (I grew up on a military base in Japan) and I felt so stupid because I was taking Japanese from 2nd grade to 6th grade, and the white kids that just moved there were already speaking better Japanese than I did:cry:-OpaK-was it Okinawa?

in most regions, children wont use spanish in kindergarten. and id hate to sound like a jackass, but kids are stupid. most of them cant handle learning two languages at once. at the end of the day, english does and should take first priority.

Not all of Canada. I didn't learn French until Grade 3. It was a waste of my time.
Schools are very evil :( then again I learned two languages at birth and I am currently mastering my fifth language so I can't complain :P
But it's obvious that the schools want the kids to learn English first, however where I am originally from I couldn't take an elective language until 5th grade

Well I wouldve loved to learn Japanese at an early age(I doubt I would be able to learn it now). Then I would be able to watch my favorite anime without waiting for a dub, or with annoying subtitles.Metalhero1
I know what you mean, well except in my case I want to learn Spanish since so many mexicans live in the United States now. If I have a kid later on in my life I will be helping him with both English and Spanish.
