White Americans are conidered of European decent. But since it's been so long and there are so many, they're just called caucasian.
I mean, we did come from Europe right? Why are Asian-Americans called Asians, but blacks and whites here aren't called Africans and Europeans? Did we somehow stop being European just because we grew up on a land detached from Europe? camreeno360
Yes! We became Americans
Edit: I mean they became Americans.

could you explain why people from the US are called americans (America is a continent, not a contry), while everybody else in America (the continent, north and south) are called by their country name (brazilian, mexican etc)

It's from a combination of the fact that A, we were by far the most referenced land by the Anglo-Saxons, thus they began calling the US simply "America" because they know no one would be talking about the other countries with little concerning them....And B, we can't really be called anything else but Americans, becuase our country is called the United States. Wouldn't it sound weird calling us "United Statians" or something? It's just easier calling us Americans, because at least it's in out name (..."of America") and all the other countries have a definitive name so it's just easier and everyones gonna know who you're talking about if you just say "America" and "Americans".What, do you guys get offended by that?

I just think it's cooler being called "European" apposed to just the plain "white", right?Yeah exactly. It's dumb. Just kind of a pointless tradition we grew into I guess. The same reason black people in America aren't referred to as "Africans". It wouldn't make sense.
Oh wait...

Oh, I was assuming you were from Latin America, because apparently the people down there get offended by it (who the hell knows why).Americans have a completely different culture than Europeans, and have had one since before the revolution (Over the last 50 years, however, American culture has bled over into Europe). Asians are called asians because that's what they are ethnically, and they often, even when whitewashed, retain a significant amount of their asian culture.
And I don't think most Europeans would want to be associated with Americans, both in the intillectual and political sense.
Ahhhemmmm, Oh, Right....Unsurprising for a European to bring in the "Americans are idiots" card...And I don't think most Europeans would want to be associated with Americans, both in the intillectual and political sense.

Though we can apply this to the Canadians who who are nearly identical to us in terms of the culture of the blended white population. Not to mention Australians and and New Zealanders aren't called Europeans.Americans have a completely different culture than Europeans, and have had one since before the revolution (Over the last 50 years, however, American culture has bled over into Europe). I have to disagree with your statement on the "white-washed" asians. It seems a lot of asians who are of second generation and were born and raised in America seems to act and behave exactly like the whites, though a lot of them seem to remain in defiance and shout "Asian Pride!" all the time (just a few, but they exist), and a lot of them seem to decide which music and activities to take part in based on something being "white" or "black", such as they won't skateboard because they label it as "white", same goes with rock music and country.

americans are not stupid, its just some of the things the US government is doing are not very nice, to some people. plus every culture always tries to find someone that they can blame and call stupid, it happens all the time.

Well since you already said you're from Isreal, and from what I can see your country is good friends with us, there obviously isn't gonna be any American prejudice over there...BUT, the thing is Europeans these days seem to have this camaraderie thing going on with collectively hating America, and blaming everything on us. Their media is totally biased to us, and imply more bad than good about us. The thing that shocks me is that so many of them don't even know how biased they are toward us, that or they won't sacrifice being open to America for not fitting in anymore with their friends who also bash America.

America is not a continent. It is a country.
The Americas are two continents, consisting of North America, and South America. It can also refer to the three regions: North, South and Central America.
America is the first and only nation to have the name America in its title/name.

well people usually have difficulty looking at their own actions objectively, and i think the media in every country is kinda brain-washing it population, exaggerating everything out of proportions, just to get more rating. i will not talk about bush and politics because this is not what we talk about right now. i been in the US for 6 months, talked to many different people and heard many different opinions, just like now. i really think its silly to call 300 million people stupid, and blame them for all the trouble in the world. i guess its much easier to judge people that live thousands of kilometers away and not yourself.

dont you think the separation is kinda artificial, after all its one mass of land (and i thind africa, asia and europe and one too)

I have noticed this trend, especially in the media. They'll never mention the US unless it's to throw a sucker-punch at them. Which'll usually be about Bush, 'global warming' or weapons possesion.
