I mean... i dont know of any specific ones, but i know silencers exist. Why is it legal to make them? I mean, thier only purpose is to kill people quietly right?

Probably because if you shoot a gun, if it's a legally owned gun then they can track who the killer was from the bullets. A silencer won't make a difference in that regard.

If you have ever gone hunting, and want to hunt a pack of whatever, or if there are other deer in the vicinity that you want to keep on tracking/hunting, you put a silencer on. A silencer for a pistol is purely military purpose. I guess people would only want it because they dont like wearing headphones when they are shooting????

BTW- I have a silencer for my rifle and my pistol... I only used it once for my pistol, I just want to hear what it sounded like and it was a free silencer, so why not?

what do you mean? dissintegrate in my vocab means reduce to nothing. Are you talking about the silencer add-on or the bullet or what? :?

well i know that a silencer doesn't evaporate into thin air, but in COD4 if you attach a silencer it erodes away after a certain amount of shots fired. I always wondered if this happens in real life, like does the silencer lose its' effectiveness in a short span. Or is COD4 just making stuff up? I ask because I know absolutely nothing about guns in the technical sense

Im not sure what happens in COD but i believe they lose thier effectiveness eventually. The bullet roughs up the silencing chamber a bit at a time. Or i could be making it up.

So is it illegal to use silencers while hunting?

well, it depends on the gun you are shooting with, but COD might be technically right, but that add-on is just gameplay. It is possible to destroy your silencer with like a automatic rifle or SMG. but to do it with your pistol is not likely. You can overheat it if it is not a well-constructed one with good materials, and it will start to flake and destroy itself, but most people that use the guns for that purpose know this, and try to not do it for practical reasons.

depends on where you go. It is illegal to do it when other hunters are around, or its not allowed either way. If other hunters are around, they could be tracking or something, and they hear your shot lets them know that they either dont want to hunt there and that someone else is close by. If not, they might track the same deer your are. That sucks. Happened to me once, and I let the other guy have em. Of course I saw him first :P

According to a documentary I saw one a dude who makes silencers noted that he'd always be in business as long as people needed them because their effectiveness does wear down quite quickly.

Out of curiosity, does it sound like the silencer on Goldeneye (like a whilstle) or it is more like on COD4 (like a soft click)?

it sounds like a muffled gun shot  I'm not sure how to describe it... ill put it in lettering with caps being loud

DDwwwwwu. it had a bit of a whine to it, but sounded like a bullet passing through air. It was pretty cool. the clicks ones are the REALLY good ones, but the clicking is the gun, not the silencer.

Took someone long enough to say it. Thank you.

And while it suppresses the loud 'bang' of the gases expanding from the muzzle it does nothing to lessen the loud 'crack' of the supersonic slug. Unless you are using subsonic ammunition.

Heres a video of someone shooting silenced guns just so you know what they sound like.

Silencers were designed for the CIA, Navy Seal, secret agents.. you know those guys.. to kill in stealth, without alerting the enemies..

But for average people like me and you to use? I have no clue. All I know is that it's a bad idea.

Metal Gear Solid 3,4 have it too.If you attach a silencer and play with it for a while it will 'break'.

You must have bought a Western silencer then. Those Russian Silencers are nearly useless after a few shots.
