I feel like religion needs some updates. They've made significant changes in the past before (Old and New Testament for example) so what are the chances that if I was a prophet in this day, people would believe me? I don't think anyone in this day can claim God is talking to them in an attempt to change religion from what it is. I'd like to say that God told me that marriage among gays is okay now or that sex before marriage isn't a sin, but what would it take for the religiously aligned to believe NEW words are coming from God. Or is it that we will continue to hold on to all of our old rules? If we're not willing to accept change that makes people work together better, then I think religion (at least the current ones) will fade.
Religion is making significant changes even today. Even Christianity is, just not all of it at once. Case in point look at the United Churches of Christ (a pretty large denomination of mainline Christianity) and their stances on Gay issues.
Because you need to have visions of the future. Tell you what, tell me what the mega millions numbers will be, I'll go out and buy a ticket, and if I win you can be a prophet.
