Just to make it clear and avoid the idiots that just skip to the nitty-gritty, I am a Catholic and have read the Bible (most of it anyways) studied it forever in Catholic Schools (elementary, middle, and hs), and know wth I'm talking about.

Catholism is the only true religion (gotta say that because my/our Pope Benedict just said that). Other Christian sects branched off for valid reasons a millenium ago and remain separated for foolish nostalgic ideas of their religion today. To not sound like I'm attacking you, my friend is a baptist.

Ours is the only true religion. I gotta say that or else I'd be thinking all weird. Anyways, that's for another thread some1 else can make. I'm here to talk about other religions. Other Good People. This is asusming the good people aint christians.

Examples in the past: Ghandi, erm....I got a brainfreeze or w/e. There ARE more. Just post replies with their names.

Even Muslims can go to Heaven, I'm assuming, if they reject the evils of their religion and live in their religion opposing terrorism or just by living a normal, regular, good life.

*edit* i apologize for the cruddy, messed up fonts. I don't know how to fix it xD!

Just think about what people believed in before Christianity was born and you have your answer. The pope is full of ****. Im not a fan of religion, I hate it actually but if people say completely irrational statements regarding it then I will prove them wrong. Either using the theory that there is a God or the theory that there isnt a God. I do hate it when people make statements like that though.

That';s true, but I'm just assuming that some1 that avoided a war (e.g. ghandi) would go to heaven for saving a ton of lives.

I fail to see what's so offensive about what the Pope said. He said that the church that he's the head of is the one true church of God? Color me shocked!:|

Talk to anyone of any other religion, and they'll make the same claim. Hell, talk to an Athiest, and he'll say his is the right religion... or, more accurately, lack thereof.

'but by me' could be a (gosh what's the word lol)...eh...forgot, could be meaning that believing in peace (which was essentially what Jesus preached) is how you get to heaven. Could have been in leiu of another word considering the poor level of education back then.

The pope's comment was directed mainly at the protestant divisions.

A fundamental part of being Christian is the belief in the divinity of Christ.

Conscerning righteous nonbelievers, I have to go with Dante's ideals: they go to Limbo. They're not tortured in Hell, but they don't go to Heaven.

Calm down for a minute. Deep breaths. Deeeeep breaths...

Alright. What I'm saying is, I don't really mind other's beliefs. You're an athiest? Good for you! More power to you! The fact is, my beliefs are my own, and your beliefs are your own.

What's so terrible about the leader of a church commenting on the validity of the church? Shouldn't everything he say be "full of ****" in your mind? Why do you even care?

There is such a thing as a non-denomination christian (that's what I am), which means that you don't get into christianinty because of any religious crap, but because you belive in the bible. The bible and it's teachingssaves souls, not religon. I somehow doubt that god is gonna be like "Catholics are the only true religious people, so everyone else is gonna go straight to hell". That completly goes against everything that is said in the bible.

good and evil does not exist so peoples versions of "God" do not exist. God is something beyond our minds.

Why would god send you to eternal HELL for not beliving in a specific religion? that does not make sense to me.

Also sin does not exist

And 4 out of mebbe 60 of those were picked at random by some politician 1700 year ago who may or may not have been inspired by God.

lompocus

Once again: Teabing's rant in Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code is not an accurate history of the Church and Christianity.

The bible wasn't actually written by god. It is other's interpretation of what god is. So who are we to say who can and who can't go to heaven?

lompocus

As far as the NT...it's considered the teachings of Jesus...it's what HE said. So.....

the bible was written by men who recieved the words from the holy spirit

And 4 out of mebbe 60 of those were picked at random by some politician 1700 year ago who may or may not have been inspired by God.

actually, there is a process known as canonization. there are specific guidelines for a book to follow in order to be added to the bible. I learned these in school, but I cant remember the exact steps

good and evil does not exist so peoples versions of "God" do not exist. God is something beyond our minds.

Why would god send you to eternal HELL for not beliving in a specific religion? that does not make sense to me.

Also sin does not exist

mega_deth

Evil doesn't exist? You're very mistaken.

Mother Teresa: "I'll go o any peace rally, but count me out of any anti-war rally"

Not the exact words but very simalar.

@ ElZilcho90: You could go with Dante's ideals. mebbe seeing a limbo or purgatory (Do Christians believe in purgatory?) as a waiting room 'till they can make a choice at the apocalypse.

Christ's divinity is still disputed, it was 'officially' decided 1700 years ago by Constantine in order to bring order to a fluctuating political state in his empire. Not to mention the 4 books in the new testament are only 4 of 60.

Mother Teresa is not scripture.

We find it O.K. to talk about it in my freaking town!

[QUOTE="Splinter_Cell3"]There is such a thing as a non-denomination christian (that's what I am), which means that you don't get into christianinty because of any religious crap, but because you belive in the bible. The bible and it's teachingssaves souls, not religon. I somehow doubt that god is gonna be like "Catholics are the only true religious people, so everyone else is gonna go straight to hell". That completly goes against everything that is said in the bible.lompocus

You didn't read the post did you?

Yeah, I read the post and all about that "Save lives and don't sin to go to heaven even if you aren't christian" crap, but you also said that catholics are the only "true" religious people, which is as arrogant as it is stupid. My comment was directed at that.

[QUOTE="Shade-Blade"]Just think about what people believed in before Christianity was born and you have your answer. The pope is full of ****. Im not a fan of religion, I hate it actually but if people say completely irrational statements regarding it then I will prove them wrong. Either using the theory that there is a God or the theory that there isnt a God. I do hate it when people make statements like that though.mig_killer2

Every religion that says that is full of **** in my mind. Yes, I realize that religion has done god stuff. Religion has also caused bad stuff. Im not saying its offensive, what he said. Im saying that I think its full of **** what he said. And yes, I happen to be an Athiest, got a problem? Deal with it. I think my religion is the right one... for me. Its right for alot of people also. Every person has a different view of religion. I do, however, realize that there are other religions so I do not say that Athieism is the right religion for everyone, that there is definatly no God.

we're not athiests. got a problem? deal with it

Do not speak for everyone on this forum. You, Y-O-U, are not an Athiest. I do not have a problem with it as long as you do not try to shove your beliefs down my throat and critisize (Spelling?) mine.

opps, my bad:(. I still think that christ is the only way to heaven.

And I believe that there is no Devine Being or Place. I respect your beliefs and I will never bash them untill you start bashing mine.
