I had that exact same question too.
Because it would only take one orc with a bow and arrow and good aim to kill the bird and have the ring returned to Sauron, which would be very very bad. And since there were millions of orcs, the good aim part wouldn't even be necessary. The bird thing wouldn't have worked.

I had that exact same question too.
Because it would only take one orc with a bow and arrow and good aim to kill the bird and have the ring returned to Sauron, which would be very very bad. And since there were millions of orcs, the good aim part wouldn't even be necessary. The bird thing wouldn't have worked.
arrows can only go so high there buddy.

trust me, the birds in the movie can go alot,alot higher than any arrow.
