Because any dull-minded-clown-buffoon can press some buttons and turn some knobs. It takes talent to use a guitar, especially a 5 neck like this: And drums like this: Kevlar101That's kind of really downplaying it.. These days, when it comes to vocals, there are a lot of voice alternators, that "Enhance" a singers voice, so its not even really their own voices. How is that talent? The same goes for instruments. A sound has to come from a persons own talent, not the talent of a sound machine. That's just..so ignorant and flawed. So because someone pushes buttons and spends weeks alternating tones and frequencies instead of strumming up and down or plucking a bass string he's less talented? The machine doesn't produce magical notes that sound good to an audience, it requires talent to assemble that piece. Classical music doesn't sound good because 120 people are playing instruments randomly, a composer had to spend weeks and months assembling it. It's the same with any EDM song. Also vocal editing has nothing to do with this argument, a very large chunk of EDM doesn't use vocals, and the chunk that does, from my experience, almost never uses altered vocals.[QUOTE="Kevlar101"]Because any dull-minded-clown-buffoon can press some buttons and turn some knobs. Ok, I like SOME pop, I like its upbeat sound, but, I prefer stuff like Rock, Jazz and Blues because at least Rock performers, Jazz performers and Blues performers have passion, at least they use REAL instruments, their own voices, and actually have talent. That is why I prefer it, not just because I love the sound, but because I respect the people who make the sound. Because it is their own work, their own talent. I like pop musics sound, but I don't respect the people who make the sound, because they use sound machines and voice alternators, so its NOT their own work or talent. Let me put it like this, if there was a sports car race, and one of the drivers had a car that drives forward automatically, and does all the driving for the driver, and he wins the race, why should he get credit? It was not his own work, it was the technoligy that did the work.[QUOTE="Kevlar101"][QUOTE="FrostyPhantasm"] That's kind of really downplaying it.. Well, obviously all electronic music is made with software. All modern synths are digitial or virtual-analogue. But I have a soft spot for synth pads and leads, so im definitely in for electronic music. Im not really into trance/house/dubstep. But I do really like some aspects of electronica in different kinds of music.

A lot of EDM artists have musical education, classical education or have been in other genres though.. I mean even skrillex used to play guitars and sing. The Bloody Beetroots and Daft Punk both have vast knowledge of Classical works and theory, one of the members of The Bloody Beetroots has even composed classical tunes that received very good recognition and praise. Not to mention both of those bands can also play guitar and drums and do most of their sampling themselves.Kevlar in real life

Voice alternators? What are we talking about? Car batteries? You clearly have never made a professional recording. Double tracking, phasing, distortion, reverb, pitch-correction, vocoders and compression are all great techniques to achieve different sonic levels on voices. If you just sing dry vocals all the time, that is what it is: Dry. Modern techniques have evolved because people wanted new sounds. The old days werent that great, dude. Embrace 2012. Postprocessing effects are awesome, and very much a part of making music.

You have Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones as your pictures. I can only assume you like "Dad Rock" and claim rock music is dead.
If you think pop music takes less talent... give me a roman numeral analysis of "I kissed a girl" by Katy Perry and talk to me about modal mixture.
How does my car analogy make it look like I dont know what i'm talking about? I know exactly what i'm talking about.[QUOTE="Kevlar101"][QUOTE="mAArdman"]
If you're suggesting that there's not a lot of work involved in programming and using an electronic instrument such as a synthesizer, I think you might have to do some research on the subject. While it may not be as obvious as learning a physical instrument, there actually is a lot of knowledge, creativity and skill involved in playing a synth. Imagine if you could shape the sound you use as well as using your technical skill to play it. Can't do that with traditional instruments, except the organ and some others I might be forgetting. Your car analogy is not applicable here, and makes it look like you don't know what you're talking about. In this case the technology is used to create or modify sounds; not to create and play an entire song without any human input.mAArdman

I find the term "Dad-Rock" insulting, but, if "Dad Rock" is what you call "Classic Rock" then yes, I like it. Rock from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Although the late 80s and 90s is more of Latter-Day rock. And I do not think that rock is dead, there are still rock groups around today, but they are just not as popular as, say, a pop singer/group.[QUOTE="mAArdman"][QUOTE="Kevlar101"] How does my car analogy make it look like I dont know what i'm talking about?
