Well, they had "You can't do that on television" that was pretty kid. And wasnt "the kids in the hall" canadian as well? Could also be that all the canadian actors come down to the states to work. We get all your talent.

The cartoons from Canada are good. I'm always surprised when I watch a show in the US and find out it was a Canadian show.

Global doesn't really air any Canadian programming (other than news), do they? They pretty much just air Fox programming.

We don't have a lot of *great* shows, and if I had to guess why it's because we don't have as much funding, and America is simply the audience everyone wants to break into. While we might not solely produce shows, there are a bunch of prominent shows that are joint ventures filmed in Vancouver featuring a lot of Canadian talent. The funding just comes from elsewhere.

Since when are modern shows from anywhere good? Most good shows died with the 1990's. Hundreds of channels on television, and never anything on to watch (except Food Network).

Take a guess how much Canada spends in the entertainment industry then take a guess how much America does. Money does mean something.

I don't know what you're smoking but there are a ton of good shows on TV the last few years and quite frankly I can't remember hte last time the quality was as high as it is now.

Of course you are going to say any show I list is bad so I probably won't bother.

To some extent, I agree...but most BBC shows seem to have a TV budget equivalent of a small child's pocket money yet they turn out ok.

Flashpoint is a good show. Or was, when I watched it. I like it when Canadian shows don't pretend to be American, such as with Flashpoint. It's very obviously Toronto-based.

My Canadian pride dicatates i say you are wrong! Though I will concede that HBO/Showtime/AMC shows are faar better then any network programming

Rick mercer Report > Colbert, Daily Show, all other polotical comedy
The Nature Of Things = best science documentry on tv
Corner Gas is one of the best sitcom's of all time, just short of arrested development in my book
Hockey Night in Canada beats the crap out of any other sports coverage out there

and really, all you have to do is look at the numbers, america has 10 tiems more people, therefore 10 tiems more tv shows, therefore 10 tiems as many GOOD ones.

honorable mention: stargate SG1, but battlestar still beats it handidly.

I would normally say to each their own in this type of thread, but hands down, America has the better TV shows. There's a reason our shows get syndicated more than the rest.

Because you are a much bigger country and have been the centre of culture in the 20th century maybe :P

Seriously though, popular doesnt mean great. I can think of 5 great American shows off the top of my head, same with British. Which is impressive considering America is a basketball and Britain is a marble. :)

Something doesn't normally become popular if it's bad. :P

I can only list three shows from the UK that I've liked: MI5, Jekyll and Robin Hood. And there are only a few more that I even know about. A cooking show, Law and Order: UK, and that's about it.
