When I was a kid I never got into any kind of fandom over any actor, actress, or singer. I'm not saying I was better, because I was a little fart, but in all seriousness, WHY are children so attracted to the idea of Soulja Boy?
The closest I got when I was a kid to being obsessed with one kind of entertainment was Pokemon. But even then that doesn't seem anything like nowadays.
My fandom was me getting up at 6 to watch a thirty minute cartoon and then go to school, where I talked about it with my friends. And even then, at least Pokemon tried to have some kind "Love your friends!" mentality that actually served a point.
When I watched Pokemon, the characters were talking about love over hate and the power of friendship. It may only work all the time as a kid, but at least it was something. Now I see kids worshipping rappers and people who murder one another, or do hard drugs, or have been involved with that stuff, like 50 Cent.
Maybe I can't understand the whole idea, but do you any of you have some kind of psychology bit that will help me understand why kids like this stuff?
