When I was a kid I never got into any kind of fandom over any actor, actress, or singer. I'm not saying I was better, because I was a little fart, but in all seriousness, WHY are children so attracted to the idea of Soulja Boy?

The closest I got when I was a kid to being obsessed with one kind of entertainment was Pokemon. But even then that doesn't seem anything like nowadays.

My fandom was me getting up at 6 to watch a thirty minute cartoon and then go to school, where I talked about it with my friends. And even then, at least Pokemon tried to have some kind "Love your friends!" mentality that actually served a point.

When I watched Pokemon, the characters were talking about love over hate and the power of friendship. It may only work all the time as a kid, but at least it was something. Now I see kids worshipping rappers and people who murder one another, or do hard drugs, or have been involved with that stuff, like 50 Cent.

Maybe I can't understand the whole idea, but do you any of you have some kind of psychology bit that will help me understand why kids like this stuff?

Children usually like whatever is popular, though I'm not exactly sure why people such as 50 Cent are popular.

I'm a kid, and I don't like Soulja boy....

I rarely like bands that are popular at school.

I never did either... I think that its just a vocal minority of people that really get crazy about stars and actors.

It's not just children. Who do you think watches the shows and reads the magazines about celebrities?

So this means those same children will grow up into adults who spend all their spare time obsessing over what Brad Pitt's doing?

Is there any hope for these people?

Because celebs have everything kids don't. Anybody who makes a million dollars a year a child is gonna idolize. And it's sad because that's why some kids are screwed up. They want what Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton have. To be skinny, rich and popular so they'll do whatever they can to get their hands on an ounce of what celebs have.

They idolize them until they get old enough to understand that life doesnt work out like that. After this they come to the conclusion that they WILL be working at Mcdonalds and WILL be going to a community college to learn a trade skill from which they WILL be making minimum wage.
