Some is to do with racial prejudice and bigotry, as well as region-based clique establishment, isolation of anyone different, fear of anything and anyone different or unpredictable, and that sort of thing.... so it seems to me.
As for who i like - ah, it depends on who they are... :D
As the saying goes, i pick my clothes by their colour and my friends for their company - because picking my clothes for the company and the friends for their colour is just silly.
You hardly ever see any brown people here, everyone's just all troll-looking (islanders ;) ) and pink, I think it's a bit dull that way to be honest.

Lol where the hell do YOU live?
Toronto. Arguably the most multicultural city in the world.
Saying that as if it's a good thing.

Yes, please do. Go into detail, if you like, to give further weight to your point.

Seems like you're proud or something. I don't think it's a big deal whether or not the place I live in is multicultural.
Why would people assume that someone from the same nationality as themself would necessarily make a good partner ?
If people share a similar ethical and moral foundation but only like a few shows in common but try out new things all the time from each culture..... then is that so bad, compared to having grown up in the sameculture watching similar programmes but not necessarily having anything else in common with them ?
It's all very well finding nationality X to be generally 'hot' or 'not your type', that's just how it is.... species of animals are varied that way.... but to make sweeping judgements or to dismiss someone from consideration as a potential friend or lover based on nationality primarily seems petty to me, or at least superficial.
If there's no chemical brouhaha because you just don't fancy people from nationality X then people can;t help that either , so it goes both ways I think.

I'm neither proud nor ashamed of the fact. It simply is what it is. I wasn't boasting but you specifically asked with a slight sense of bewilderment "where the hell" I lived. I figured that adding the multicultural detail would shed some light on the situation. You still with me, champion? ;)

Heck no! I'm a racist. Remember that next time we reply to eachother.

i also read a report in the paper that the mixed race population in Britain will overtake the black population in about 5-10 years due to the amount of mixed race children being born.

I see mixed race couples all the time here in SF as well, and saw plenty of multiculti (specifically black/white) couples when I lived in AtlantaI like women of all shades and colors ;) I just live in a predominately white area so I don't really have a choice.
Well, I'm white, I grew up around mostly white people. So as I matured and I formed my opinion of what I find appealing I took what I was most familiar with, white people. (you can't blame me for the psychological influence my childhood has on me. So no calling me racist for saying that... It's not racist but i feel like it is for some reason.) Or, I guess I should say IMO. Cuz I believe your surroundings has a huge influence on what you find attractive. I'm not saying your genes has nothing to do with it though.VacantPsalmHmm. that could be right. There is barely any girls the same race as me in my school.
[QUOTE="sonicare"]They are comfortable with what is familiar?Iconic_DI guess so, but I am not like that.Yes you are. You are either just not recognizing it or ignoring it. You do feel comforable around anything thats familiar or shares a common trait within you or your social culture. Its just human nature I guess.

I think that the biggest factor that keeps same-race couples as the overwhelming norm is money.
socio-economic standings dictates the area you can afford to live in, work in, go to school in. you can't date someone you are not able to hang around.
race has, especially in the past, been linked to socio-economic standings because of immigrant status, and the legacy of slavery.
things are slowly changing, but there is still plenty of socio-economic inequality and plenty of racism out there.
