People are ignorant in general. I have to say though, there is no Southern Hospitality up North. Come to Atlanta, Nashville, or Charleston there won't be a lot of honking on the roads compared to New York.Hemmaroids

This is kinda true, one of the major early morning news shows reported a study on it. But to be fair, traffic is super gridlocked in Manhattan. New York City has the longest commutes of any other city in America.

i don't know how to explain it...alright I'm from flushing Queens and when you goto neighborhoods such as brownsville, bedford, flat bush...you have to act like you're suffering. If you dress sophisticated with Nike sneakers and such they will rob and kill you. They have no money, they're depressed, they live in the government housing projects, them going to prison is vacation. I'm not trying to argue but just giving you advice.

I don't think it's unfair to look at a certain crime percentage based on a certain race and then make an argument that the majority of crime is caused by the people of that certain race (as long as it's actual fact, which usually it's not) but I do think it's unfair to generalize an entire race as being rapists, murderers and just overall bad people based on that percentage. If you want to get to the root of the problem you can't blame every person of one race and instead need to look at the overall community and ways on fixing the community.

I kinda understand what you're saying. I guess they assume that if you dress sophisticated you probably don't understand what they have to go through on a day to day basis just to make ends meet. As if you don't know about the "struggle."

fix the community how? by telling the government to give them more money? people who live in projects don't pay for rent, bills, etc. they get food stamps, they get to live and eat for free not pay a dime, while the working class pays high taxes and even gets money taken out of their pay because of taxes. A strategy project dwellers use is to have a high number of babies, i'm not kidding. They have 10-15 kids just to get money from the gov. the kids become neglected and grow up to be cop killers, rapists, theifs, gang bangers, etc.

This. The majority of the population may be of a certain ethnicity. But to generalize all other people of that skin color as degenerates is wrong and narrow-minded. The problems should be more so looked at within the communities. Poverty often goes hand in hand with such crimes. Or at the very least has had some influence on the individual in some manner.

Want to see ignorant, visit South Carolina (I'm from there so I can get away with saying that lol) Amnesiac23
As a resident of North Carolina I would have to agree. I've only driven through the state a handful of times and it didn't seem like the kind of place I would want to live. Gave me the same vibe as when I lived in Georgia (no offense to anyone from either state).

I can't find one restaurant in Manhattan that isn't a tourist trap. They hardly even make pizza anymore, they just premakeoverpriced specials and wait for people to buy them.

Actually they do have to pay bills. They have to pay gas if they have a car. There aint no free lunches. What if the iteam they want aint on food stamps? They pay (hopefully and if not I will be the one arresting them).

you'll be the one arresting them? not as easy as it sounds, they won't just let you take them to jail without a fight. Well yeah gas if they have a car, most don't. Many stores take food stampls i'm pretty sure they can get whatever food they want. We're the ones who pay for them...the tax payers

I made a thread about the most dangerous cities for 2010 here.

Top five most dangerous are:

1. St. Louis, MO

2. Camden, NJ (#1 previously)

3. Detroit, MI

4. Flint, MI

5. Oakland, CA

You can find a quick-look table of 400 cities' ranking here.

NYC ranked 269, the safest being 400.

Don't give that kind of advice, jokingly or not. :( It's a BAD time. Even with cops routinely patrolling, I watch my step whenever I'm in that area, and I make sure I'm in and out ASAP.

I'm going to agree and say Jamaica isn't too bad. It's rough in spots, but overall it's not bad. I got lost there and a bunch of people helped me find the way out, and were really nice. :) Heck, even the Flatbush area isn't terrible...it's just a bit shady. Bedford has gotten better, but it's still a bit of a trash hole. At least there's been some progress there. Brownsville though......my cousin lived around there with her boyfriend for a little, and it's probably the only place I've seen folks walk around with guns in their hands or hanging out of their pockets, in plain sight. Not a good time. It was consistently my least favourite time when I went down to NYC to visit my family members.

Well, that black people commit a disproportionate amount of crime is just a fact; blacks make up about 13% of the population in America but account for about 28% of people arrested by police (although one can argue that statistics on arrests or incarceration is not representative of actual crimes committed). The problem is that people stop there and declare that they're done, ignoring the wide economic and cultural differences between the average white person and the average black person.

As a wise man once stated, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

Ok I live in Brookly,NY. Sure those neighborhoods are dangerous but to tell the truth they are not that bad. I have lived in Bedford Stuyvesant all my life and I still am alive today. Also TC you seem pretty ignorant. So anybody tht agrees with this guy. Why don't you first ask somebody with real experience. Also you live in Queens you are safe. I'm sure you never been to the "hood" in your life.

everyone thinks theyve been to the "hood" before. But then you really go and youre like...damn.

I used to go to Oakland, CA a lot when I was little. I thought that was "the hood".

Nope. I got a job in Richmond, CA and...damn....that is "the hood". But I don't delude myself, I am sure there are places in LA or NYC worse than that

There are places worse the bedford stuyvesant I'm sure. For example I am still scared of East New York. But anyway I live here all my life. Its not that bad if you have "street smarts" and are very aware. People make a big deal out of everything But the TC has never "lived" in the "hood" like I have. Its just another one of his ignorant rambles. Its ok here sure there are crime but to me it is home sweet home. Just with a higher chance of death and crime :P

haha yeah, a higher chance, like 1 in 500,000 instead of 1 in 600,000 to be a victim of assault. Either way you look at it, you should be more concerned about getting in a car accident.

actually according to the nypd in brownsville which is 90% black by the way it's like 500 homicides per 10,000 residents, and that's homicides alone, gang assault, larceny, auto theft, armed robbery, etc. are a lot higher

I don't want to say all but it's most. It is everyone in my college. I live in NYC queens and I'm taking a class called "intercultural communications", and it's like whenever we get on to the topic of race, crime, and class, people want to believe every neighborhood is good. According to precint crime rates (crimes reported) the worse neighborhoods are African American neighborhoods. There precint has the highest forcible rape, armed robbery, and gang assault/homicide rates at about 5 times more than the better neighborhoods. These areas include bed ford stuy. flat bush, crown heights, brownsville, all in brooklyn...specifically the projects. They get free housing, no bills to pay cause the gov. pays for it all, and they have 10 kids just to get money from the gov. and no i'm not making this up I know people...a bunch of people who have done this. In Queens it is Jamaica queens. Why is it that noone in my class ever brings this up, and when someone does bring it up, students get mad? I been robbed at knife point by 3 african american guys a while back and I know people who got beat to death in those neighborhoods I mentioned. I understand any race can commit crimes, but I'm just going according to precint stats. Alright so do people know in their minds that this is the reality but just want to deny it? or is it because they don't know and want to stay ignorant?

*sigh* I'm sure the closest you been to brownsville is driving through it. You live in Queens there is hardly any crime in Queens. Your speaking from a third person perspective.
