Seems like the US media is succesfully getting into peoples brains as always...
Just because he speaks out against the US's atrocitys doesn't mean hes bad. Sure he's a loud mouth but just tells things like they are.

I mean he's the president of the happiest country in the world, he must be doing something right. And et s re-voted all the time I'd like to see Bush do that..pspdseagle
I have a friend who moved to the U.S. from Venezuela a couple years back and he says the U.S. is much better off than Venezuela. He also views Chavez as a manical dictator who only stays in office by rigging elections.
[QUOTE="pspdseagle"]This is for open minded people and for people that are not ignorant about the facts and statistics. I mean, since the Chavez revolution started the extreme poverty has gone down 72%!! Poverty has gone down from 60+% to 26%%! Also, even though the world economic crisis, Venezuela during the crisis improved its economy 0.3% Before the revolution, the land was contolled by only 20% of the people, now its distributed. Between 1998 and 2006 child death has lowered a third. The number of primary attention doctors has gone up 12 times higher! Education and social security has doubled. Unemployment has lowered 11.3%! Public debt has lowered from 30.7% to 14.3% ALL of those are FACTS. I don't care if he is forever in Venezuela, things ahve been better since he got to power, overall, he is good.gamerguru100Do you have a source for these facts?
Even if he does, it's a very bold claim to attribute all of this to one man's economic and social policy. I'd say that oil prices, revenues, and subsequent development have something else to do with it, maybe even to a greater degree. And don't forget, economies doing well in the short run doesn't mean anything. They tend to burn out pretty quickly, especially with a de facto dictator in charge.
Chavez was elected by the people, the majority of the people. pspdseagle
And now everyone hates him, but he keeps rigging elections so they can't get him out of power.
I mean he's the president of the happiest country in the world, he must be doing something right. And et s re-voted all the time I'd like to see Bush do that..pspdseagle
The happiest countries in the world statistically are the Nordic countries, specifically Denmark . This is beginning to sound like a troll to me.

Just checked the net those lists are all so different, must all be lies. Sorry..
Joke thread?
But seriously, I remember that he called for a vote for him to stay in power for as long as he lived, and almost no one voted lol
If he was good, people would have voted for him again.
I thought so too but seeing what Hugo's doing to his country, and the fact that many Venezuelans want him out, I now know why he's disliked. Hugo wrecked the Venezuelan economy and made himself president for life. Worse, he's oppressive.

Some are more accurate and authoritative than others. It's better than your assertion that Venezuela is the happiest country in the world with absolutely no documentation.

americans can only have 2 terms

Yes, he severely disrupted the rich and influencial families' hold on the country both politically and economically. Luckily, that US backed coup didn't work

That's a good way to describe most if not all of your assertions in this thread.
short answer the guys an **** who thinks to highly of himself and his countries role on the world stage he has made empty threats towards the U.S and even the British over the Falklands and has stated his force would support Argentina in a new war with the UK how ever this is just him opening his big mouth as most of us know his huge ego couldn't take being beat and on top of all that the king of Spain called him an idiot once provoking huge applause's from the other leaders of Hispanic nations .

Like that's saying much. Venezuela is still consistently ranked one of the very worst countries to be in going by Economic Freedom .

He's obnoxious, but I don't really see what the big deal with him is, outside of saying things to piss off the US. Everyone's like "zomg Chavez! Ahmedinejad!" yet nobody gave a **** about Niyazhov or today about Mugabe. I don't approve of some of the things Chavez is doing, but by latin American standards he's not really that bad and by world standards he's nowhere near the worst. People only pay attention to him because of his stance towards the US.

Just to play Devil's Advocate here, if he rigged the elections, why did the proposed law that would allow him life long rule of the country (getting rid of the need for elections) fail when it was put to a vote?[QUOTE="HomicidalCherry"][QUOTE="pspdseagle"]I mean he's the president of the happiest country in the world, he must be doing something right. Just to play Devil's Advocate here, if he rigged the elections, why did the proposed law that would allow him life long rule of the country (getting rid of the need for elections) fail when it was put to a vote? The vote to scrap term limits didn't fail. Meaning that now as long as he keeps winning elections, he gets to stay in power. It is true a similar referendum failed in 2007, but the situation has drastically changed in his favor, and he won this time in 2009. Some would argue that he is vritually unstoppable now, and he will be de facto dictator from here on out.
It's not like we're the only ones who hate him. Venezuelans want him the hell out.
Theokhoth
Those who really dislike him are the rich minority (that unsurprisingly control the private media). Chavez is diminishing their income and taking away the control they had over oil revenues. Of course this minority of greedy pigs are making a lot of noise to make Chavez seem like an unsympathetic dictator comparable to Hitler and Stalin, which is untrue.
The U.S. dislikes Chavez because he won't bend over backwards to accomodate them and is one among a few South American leadres who doesn't want to be involved in western globalization.
He loses either way because those with money are against him.
Btw I am not saying he is perfect but Chavez is not an evil man nor is he a mad man like Stalin.
