I have read over and over that people say that people in the south talk slow ?Than what is slow or fast?

Okay is this how fast people talk in the north? Well to me this is talking very very very fast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1vn9h8TlPs

These people in south are not talking slow or fast but seem normal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnbNgQI49M8

Does this accent sound very strange to people in the north and does it sound like they are talking very very slow? It seems normal to me not fast and not slow.

Note Sorry it hard to get some youtube video on talking slow and youtube video on talking fast that will explain to me.

The people in the second video talk so slowly it almost sounds like they're adding extra syllables.

It's all relative to what you're used to...like the top vid is the speed I'm used to talking and the people around me were. So when I moved to Texas, the people that actually had the strong Southern accent seemed to talk really slow to me

Or is that more north east thing than? Most Hollywood movies don't talk like the first video I posted saying there talking very fast.. Here is girl from South Carolina she has a weak southern accent and she does not talk slow . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rkjndc4hc_M

Probably because when someone with a Southern Drawl accent speaks fast, they make sounds that Northerners have a difficult time distinguishing as English words. When they speak slowly and clearly, their English can sound distinctly beautiful. A quickly spoken Texan Twang southern accent can be slightly less difficult to understand.

What I'm saying people in the first video is talking really fast and you saying that is normal talk.I'm saying it not even places in California, Nevada ,Florida talk that fast even some people in UK and Canada don't talk that fast. That must be north east thing probably more city thing than suburbs thing. When I read on some message board that some people in south talk really slow I thought it was like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD1PEe1x75o or worse than this. That why I wanted to clarify what mean by talking slow.

maybe they meant a different kind of "slow" (i.e "of reduced intellectual capacity")

Because they think people in the South talk slow. It's really quite simple. thegerg
That still does not explain the first video why they talk so fast and if most of the north at least the north east talk really fast like that ? The videos I posted of people in south seem to talk normal not fast and not slow. But some members here are saying that slow. That is why I ask to clarify what is to talk slow. Most Hollywood movies and even some people in the UK and Canada don't talk very very very fast like the first video .May be people in north or north east talk fast and they thing that normal to talk like that and when they hear other people talk they think it slow if it not at really fast . TV broadcasters have always talked really fast and becoming even bigger trend .It like some one braking enter their house or a house fire and they are talking to 911 dispatch they so fast and high pitch and like almost yelling . If most of the people in the north or very must so north east talk like this that is strange.

Some people just don't know what they're talking about. I live in north Florida (the more southern like portion of the state, ironically) and people here talk at a pace comparable to most other regional accents.

I don't know the first video still seems a little slow but the 2nd one holy but news reporters always are told to talk as clearly as possible are they not? Which would result in some of them talking a bit slower than they normally would.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNoTw51z48U

This is pretty much how people talk here.

Yeah i guess, then there's the different newfie/east coast Canadian that talk very fast but half their dialect is made up i'm sure and it can be pretty hard to understand some of them.

Not in many places, but in the northern and central portions of Florida many people do have southern accents.

Southern accents do seem to lend themselves to a slow drawl more than other regional accents.
