 The same happens to me. I dunno.tsduv21
I try to explain it, but people just don't get it. My friends have Sci fi and fantasy books, my parents have classical literature and on mty shelves are stephen king and clive barker books and others like that, people find my tastes creepy.
I don't like them but the reasons people probably do is they like when unexpected things happen. Specifically when they are bad and they happen to other people. Then they are particularly "chilling" and more entertaining.
Why do people like action films? Why do people like comedies? They like thrills and they like emotion.
Heck, forget films. Why do people go on rollercoasters?
I do but I find it hard to explain to people why I do, they think its messed up and that I am a weirdo for being entertained by horror. How do you explain why people like horror?Film-Guy
Me: Do you like going on the rides at the fair?
Them: Yes.
Me: How the HELL could you like getting tossed around and **** after just having gorged yourself on cotton candy and hot dogs? Why the **** do you like feeling sick?
Them: Um...because it's fun?
Me: Exactly.
I generally don't like horror movies. I like zombie movies because I need to be prepared.
Why do people go on rollercoasters?
Adrenaline rush, flying 70MPH with only a tiny bar holding you in, the cool feeling you get when you do a barrel roll...

1. Theyre creative. Its a lot harder to create an Alien, a Freddy Kruger, and a Thing than it is to create four bimbos from New York
2. Theyre beautiful. Horror movies often take place in pretty landscapes do to their contrast with the subject matter. A haunted house movie will take place on a beautiful bluff with a pretty mansion, for example.
3. Theyre more difficult to make and, as a result, the rare good horror movie is hard to find but all the more better than the great "normal" movie. Dont get me wrong, I love "No Country for Old Men", "There will be Blood", "Forrest Gump", etc but the fact is amazing movies like that are a dime a dozen. Ten years from now I will all but forget about There Will Be Blood, but I will always come back for my quarterly fix of Aliens or The Fly.
4. THey suspend my disbelief. I love taking leaps of faith and embracing creativity, and as a result I love horror movies because they deal with the unreal. Vampires, aliens, monsters...all nonexistent except in movies, but sometimes I just wish they were real lol.
I don't know about people, I but I like because I'm interested in film and the gore effects are great...though what's even better is a movie that can scare you with no gore at all.TheZ3nManThe best movies are the ones that scare the **** outta me with no gore. Also I am not easily scared so the last movie that actually scared me was probably. The Exorcise, a long time ago.
