Why do people make computer viruses?

Why would someone want to make a computer virus and be a jerk? All it does is make other people very angry. Does it have any impact on the creator? Why be mean?

to make themsleves feel all big and powerful because they're losers outside the internet

Some virus's steal personal info such as crdeit card info, etc.

To weed out the dumber users? Maybe there are some that think that if you can intimidate the dumber computer users, they will stop using computers and we can advance technology faster.

Let all the dumb ones switch over to Mac. :P

Make money if they're crackers for hire (hackers who hack for a good cause) or just to show off if they do it as a hobby, they get a thrill outta the attention and spotlight it gets.

Why does anyone slash your tires, or stick lit fireworks up your pet cat's butt? Are they getting anything out of it? Yeah. And the ONLY thing that they get out of it is the satisfaction of causing pain and suffering.

People do this because they hate you, and the thought of you suffering gives them pleasure. That is the reason.

I like to think people make computer viruses for the same reasons some people feel the urge to craft the most elaborate and thought out arguments on a meaningless, online forum post *coughs" System Wars; it is for them to feel important. More so, they probably feel a lack of importance in real life so they attempt to feel important in some domain, even if no one sees them as important, just pathetic.

Actually some of the worm cluster outbreaks we get from time to time are believed (but not proven) to be orchestrated by individuals within anti-virus program companies to increase sales.

To steal people's personal information to make profits to try and attempt to get out of mama's basement.

I only think just because they can. I'm studying programming and rather soon I could probably make some kind of a virus. I'm not saying I will, most likely I wont, but the though of I Could is intriguing. I guess it's a bit like graffitti. Showing what you can do, marking your territory.-eddy-

All that talent and studying could be better used to help yourself and others.

Creating viruses are all they're good at, which is why they're sat on a worn out chair, in front of a computer in the dark at home 24/7 and not out in the big wide world earning a job.

I was just thinking of this, some people do it to direct traffic to other sites. Some to make others buy software.

The only reason anyone does anything, for the lulz.
