why do people say Obama is a great public speaker?

I am not an Obama hater or anything like that and I don't talk politics alot but I was flipping through the channels saw him talking about Cuba and he stutters alot and says uhhh and umm alot like he is at a loss for words, I have seen him do this previously too. Maybe he is a great speechmaker but most of that isn't his doing with the whole Yes We Can thing.

Some of Obama's campaign speeches were the best I've heard ina long time. His speech on race almost got me to cry.

delivering a speech from a teleprompter is more than just reading.

and while i agree that Obama should cut down on the ums, it's a tough habit to break.

when you're speaking to a lot of people 1 second of silence feels like an eternity, so you automatically want to fill that silence with something.

i find him inspiring, and can easily over-look the ums and ahs.

Every public speaker uhs and umms a lot, it gives you time to form your thoughts and think critically, they don't just blurt out whatever comes to their mind first, I don't think I've seen someone who didn't do this.bean-with-bacon

good radio DJs don't um too much. but it takes a lot of work to get there.

great speakers knowthat silence is power. it gives time for your last sentence to roominate.

Like any good politician, he has a skilled team of people who help him.

He's convinced his detractors that he's the Messiah, at least. :P

He reads very well off a teleprompter.
He has a very good voice.
He does a good job of putting emotion into his speeches.

But when he doesn't have a teleprompter he isn't the best. Better than Bush but i have definitely heard better.

Speaking in an interview and giving a speech are a lot differnet

I read somewhere that be brought 9 teleprompters with him to Europe. I don't know how that stacks up compared to other presidents, but it's completely ****ing ridiculous nonetheless.

But then again, the same article said he brought close to 500 people with him and 3 planes, and that's just ridiculous too.

I've never heard anyone say that he's a good public speaker.
Honestly, I wouldn't say he is. He says "uhh" a lot and adds unnecessary pauses all over the place.
I will also say that he is a better public speaker than Bush.
