The fact that you could hire somebody to do it, I don't see the point of mowing my yard. I mean, it's like hair - it's going to grow back anyways. Lolz. Plus, I work 5 days a week and about 9-12 hours a day, so I don't see the point of mowing my yard. It's a huge waste of my day too. Nothing against you people that loves to mow your yards, I just don't see the point. Maybe it's because I'm lazy, even though I work 5 days a week and 9-12 hours a day? I don't know.

To all you people that mows your yards: why do you mow your lawn?

[QUOTE="Ernesto_basic"]

Growing up, I made a lot of my money (aside from my job) mowing my parent's and neighbor's lawns. Back then, $20 a lawn wasn't bad -- I bought my Six Flags and Sea World season passes, video games and other stuff in general, that my parents just weren't able to afford. As an adult, however, my wife and I are so busy with work, running a business (and also attending law school, in my case), so we pay it forward by doing the same, what others allowed me to do.

Sure, it's not glamorous work, but for some, it can be a means to an end. One thing I've noticed though... lawns are a LOT more expensive to cut these days :P

Murderstyle75

I actually make over 50K a year cutting lawns and removing snow. If the OP thinks quality lawn care is affordable for everybody, he better think again. The cheap companies are full of either teenagers who will butcher your shit or undocumented workers who will shit in your shrubs.

lol The company i work for has a company come in twice a week to cut the grass. So last year it didn't rain for nearly 2+ weeks and grass wasn't growing AT ALL and i was walking by and asked dude while he was driving one those standing lawn mowers and asked him "WTF are you cutting?" while no cut grass was flying out? He just shaked his head and said "apparently nothing" lol i just laughed

I typically would not pay someone to do something I am fully capable of doing myself.

jimkabrhel

It's actually something I enjoy doing unless it's 100 degrees outside.

When my uncle was a kid he had to cut the lawn and in part of the lawn there were a lot of barn swallows that would dive down low, past his head, swooping for bugs. So he got a cardboard box, cut some slits in it for eyes and wore it over his head to protect against the birds when he mowed.

Congratulations. Not everyone can afford to hire someone else though. Also what's the point? It's not like some great physical hardship to cut grass. Some people may enjoy it too.

Depends on the lawn. My lawn is really big, so it takes about 2-3 hours. If done faster, it might take you up to 2 hours (maybe a hour and 30 minutes).

I loved being a spoiled brat as a kid and never having to touch a lawn mower or anything work related. Had entirely too much land anyway, just paid the people who lived around us to do it.

Well the grass in our garden (I'm too common and it feels weird saying lawn) takes about 10 minutes to cut. Those people who take an hour doing it must be really slow or have gardens the size of farms.

why spend the money to hire some fool? My father mows our yard, years ago, when I was a little kid, we used to hire some guy, then we switched to a different guy and then another one (all of them named Sebby, too), then my father decided to mow it himself.

If you take 10 minutes, your lawn is tiny. It takes like 80-90 minutes to do my parent's lawn.

Some people enjoy cutting the grass, either because it's a little busy work to do or they like the smell of freshly cut grass, which is a nice smell. Why pay someone else to do it if you can do it yourself, unless you're physically unable to or it's council grounds.

just some bum/kid is going charge $20-30  company charge you 50+. I can cut my lawn front, back, very back(kinda break back yard in half has we have a creek running through my yard.) I can cut in all in 45 minutes with a push lawn mower,

I can't make that amount of money in 45 minutes....

I do let it get out of control sometimes because i really don't care. By doing so it makes it harder and make it look like trash

Anyways back in high school I had 13 lawns i  would cut every week and 4 more every 2 weeks.  Quite good money but, sucks has it's was only seasonal job.

Even here in Socal we're seeing more and more southwestern/desert gardens in place of lawns. It's definitely the way I'd go but I've always loved desert gardens.
