He says NO to drilling in America. He says NO to offshore drilling. He says NO to nuclear power.
McCain says YES to all of those.
Someone please tell me how Obama will lower gas prices and McCain won't.

Raise funding for finding an alternate energy source. Do you deny that an oil-free United States, which is not dependant on something so crucial to our Economy, would be a good thing?
SimpJee
That won't lower gas prices UNTIL we find a suitable source of alternative energy. That could be years for all we know. Americans want an immediate solution. And besides, John McCain supports funding for alternative energy. Last I checked, we can drill for oil in the United States and find new energy sources at the same time.
[QUOTE="Matt-4542"]Why do people think McCain will?bungie93
Because he wants to drill in the United states to increase the supply and use nuclear power to decrease the demand? I knew about supply and demand before I even took Economics

From what I've seen there are a ton of very powerful Republicans that are tied in with Oil, I really don't want any Republican near a major office UNTIL we find that alternate energy source it's that important.

Here in Canada, we have the oil sands in Alberta....and we're paying more for gas than people in USA(at least, where i live in Ontario, we are). How does all that oil drilling help lower gas prices when all that oil is going to oil companies who have already established their comfy profit margins?
It seems a lot of people today always want quick fixes, and ignore the longer term solutions. If the Chicago trade board hadn't killed the regulations on oil(among other economical atrocities), then we probably wouldn't be having this discussion.

Even drilling for oil is not an immediate solution. It will take time to find the oil, drill for the oil, process the oil and then transport the oil. Years.
And anyway, don't you know that the immediate solution is usually the worst one? Plus Obama supports expanding nuclear power.

I know in the UK gas is taxed ultra high, it might be the same for Canadians

Because your liberal Canadian government taxes gasoline heavily.

Even without the tax, we're paying about equivalent with the US. And we're an oil country, with oil sprouting up in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Yeah, the liberals tax us to death here in Ontario, and don't use the evenue wisely(it should go to alternate fuel R&D /alternate transport benefits/ discounting fuel economic vehicles, etc. instead of Toronto's transport infrastructure).

In this video he says "I am not a nuclear energy proponent."
Here is a link to Obama's energy plan. He realized we need nuclear power in order to have an energy independent future. His main goals are to ensure its safety.

not to mention hes going to tax more.
because the government makes just as much money on a gallon of gas as the oil companies do (ive heard reports that they actually make more but im not sure)
so saying obama will lower gas prices is pretty funny, youd be better off sticking with bush and thats saying A LOT.

Because it is more profitable to sell American oil in America rather than export. The demand for oil is also very high in America and we have one of the lowest gasoline tax rates in the world.

That doesn't guarantee anything, especially with the US dollar being so weak.
ACtually, with the dollar being so weak, it is actually more profitable to sell oil to Europeans.

'exorbitant fees' ? oil is sold on a global market. that means that the price of oil is generally fixed no matter what country you're buying it from or selling it to. SA does not tack on extra fees for its oil vs. oil sold by venezuela. american oil sold in america costs the same as american oil sold in europe. drilling in the US is a supply issue only. the argument being we will be able to supply more of our need for oil with domestic production vs. buying from overseas. but if you think that a us company selling to the us is suddenly going to slash the price of its product because its selling to americans you're out of your mind. the sellers are looking to get the best price possible for thier product and if that means selling to china then thats what they'll do.
I say NO to Political topics :|
anyway, anybody but bush will lower prices on gas
supermechakirby
Maybe you say "No" to political topics because you don't know much about politics..."anybody but Bush will lower gas prices" is completely false.

I might be wrong, but I think the areas we're considering drilling in are pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
Gas prices will continue to rise all the way to 6 dollars a gallon no matter what puppet they put in Washington. Fact.GrindingAxe
That's pretty much it... The only way we can rid ourselves of the gas problem is to invest in alternative resources. This planet has an oil addiction and we're running out of oil.

Another person brainwashed by liberals. Over the course of human existence, we have used less than 1 trillion barrels of oil. The United States alone has more than 1 trillion barrels of oil underground. We are not even close to"running out of oil," although the liberal media would sure love for you think that.

This is called capitalism.. Just because we allow companies to drill in the United States, does not mean we will some how magically get less prices.. Nothing is stopping them from shipping that oil over seas to make a much larger profit..
And specifically people arn't argueing over exactly the oil prices.. But the economy in general, with McCain's economics guy saying basically "DEAL WITH IT", one only has so many choices..
Personally I want Obama in office because he will go the rational course of action with foriegn affairs by using DIPLOMACY, instead of threats or possibly avoided military action.. And the rest of the world has shared this line of thoughts as well.
I thought a big part of the problem was that no new oil refineries have been built in the US since 1976. Vyse_The_Daring

gas prices are very very very speculative nowadays. middle eastern countries know that if we start drilling in america, especially alaska (which has almost just as much as the middle east) they'll be forced to lower their prices.
