Why do people think that knitting is just for girls?

It's kind of silly don't you think? My mom will drop me off at this Starbucks near my school and I can probably knit an entire sock or scarf in an evening. They're really cool! But some guys at my school will make fun of me. I don't get why making comfy, cool clothes is gay or just for girls. :( What do you guys think?

How does making stuff from scratch look queer I think it just looks like I really know what I'm doing. I almost never wear socks that aren't knitted by me anymore.

its not only for girls, personally i thought only old people knitted but yeah if you enjoy it, then it doesnt matter what other people think :]

My ma taught me how to knit, it's easy.

It isn't a very masculine activity and that's all there is to it really.

Actually men were the first ones to knit so its another quirk of society. Look at these nets, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishing_net. They had to be made by men out at sea.

Because you're always seeing girls/women knit, not guys. However, when I was in high school, I knew football players that would sew their own uniforms if they had a tear in it! I don't care if guys knit. Hell I like it actually.:o

If your doing it for fun then yeah... If your doing it for the reason that you dont have a gf/wife to do it, just say "no girlfriend."

i've got like 3 friends at my engineering school that knit and sow. i've never jagged on em' about it. they tout it'll get em' the girl (and yet no one has landed a girl yet... true my school as a male to female ratio of 8:1, with most of the guys being geeks and or dorks).

There is nothing wrong with knitting, but going against the grain will get you the laughs and pokes. hell the woman in that pic i just shared probably got laughs from her girlfriends (maybe it is a uniform after all).
