Why do so many people hate walmart? There isnt anything walmart is doing that a smart business person wouldnt do. Without a walmart in a small town, stuff is higher in cost to buy. If a small town has a walmart then all the money you saved could be spend on local business's. I think the benefits of a walmart far outweigh the negatives. The walmart sweatshops overseas pay higher and are better work conditions then the alternatives they have.

Don't hate Walmart, but I perfer to do my shopping at Target. The stores are cleaner and more organised, and it's a lot less crowded.

Walmart buys heavily from what is essentially slave labor done in third world countries. However most big business are guilty of this. Walmart purposely makes their employees work less than 40 hours so they don't have to provide any benefits like health insurance. If that wasn't low enough, they actually took out LIFE INSURANCE policies on their employees with the corporation as the beneficiary. Their practices are highly amoral and in need of some serious regulation. Not to mention they drive small businesses out of business as the small businesses cannot compete.

I don't hate wal-mart. But I sometimes hate shopping at wal-mart. It's often crowded, and you always have long lines to check-out and people buying food, toys, clothes, etc. It takes a long time.

I like to shop at regular grocery stores because it's usually a more pleasant experience. More quiet, not crowded, and you can usually check out quick. It's just better. But I have nothing against wal-mart. I go there for some things.

I bought a pair of glasses at wal mart like 4-5 yrs ago for a hundred bucks. Last pair I bought like 2 yrs ago was 160 for frames, 80 something for lenses. They completely redid their optical dept. Finding a good pair of frames there now is like finding a real noob in World of Warcraft. It happens, but not that often,

But that passes on the savings to costomers. I bought some cereal I would have paid $5 a box for $1 a box.

i would have to disagree with that statement because the better alternative to what they have now would be for Wal-Mart to keep the jobs in the US and pay the price american labor demands.

What about the rest of what I wrote? The fact that a company would not only deny people from working 40 hours so they can skimp out on benefits when the corporation is so profitable, but they actually take out life insurance policies on their workers is simply atrocious. They are in need of some serious regulation. Also those sweatshops that walmart gets its goods from don't exactly produce all that safe goods.

Not from what I read. The sweatshop jobs are higher than the average income in 3rd world countries. http://www.econlib.org/library/Columns/y2008/Powellsweatshops.html

Doesn't change the fact that people in those sweat shops work for terrible wages, practically in wage slavery because the coporation is likely also the only source of food and shelter. That aside, what about my other points? Not to mention the ability to die on the job due to the long working hours and poor sanitation and food quality they would have to face. Lets also not forget about possible dangers at work too.

The concept of Walmart is about as American as it gets, strangely enough. I don't really shop there often, though. The items I buy aren't that much cheaper and I'd sooner purchase them from a store that isn't filled to the brim with homeless people, welfare recipients and coupon clippers. As with produce, I'll buy local whenever possible. And often the premium you pay is worth it in terms of customer service and post-purchase assistance.

People hate Wal-Mart because they ruthlessly cut costs, and sometimes the effects of that aren't okay with people. I think they're on a collision course with anti-trust lawsuits.

I like Walmart in being able to have cheap prices.. I suppose I am against many of their business practices with employees.. But you really can say that for the majority of large scale businesses out there.

To be honest, any big retail business is corrupt to the core... That is how they got so big.. Anyways I went to walmart, surprised how things are cheaper, I can get the same thing... for less. So, morally speaking, should I shop there? In my opinion (also from experience), any company that gets too big, will become corrupt. Think Rome. Is it me, or do I feel like slavery goes on just as it has always happened, but now it is away from us... then again illegal immigration says hi.

Your sig is complete win, sir, I had the most enjoyable facepalm of my life whenI read the bottom left one. Totally agree with what you said, too. And to what TC said about local business owners having more money, what happens when there are no small business owners left because corporations like Wal-Mart have cornered every market? Personally, I don't mind paying a bit more for my goods if it preserves the institution of small business ownership, I thought that was what America was supposed to be about. The problem with Wal-Mart is that it strangles small businesses, so instead of people owning their own business they have to work for **** wages and no benefits at places like Wal-Mart.

Wow, has no one pointed out the obvious flaw in the argument yet? You say that with a walmart in a town people will save money, and the money they save can be used at local businesses. However, if there was no walmart in the town to begin with, then the people would be spending all of their money at the local businesses because they will be the only places to get things from. I am against walmart because of their immoral practices. I'd rather pay a little more money for a something then to have it and know that everyone from the laborers in china to the clerks at the store are getting ripped off. That's not to say that companies other than walmart are innocent either, but generally walmart is the worst offender.

All Walmart does is give people what they want: lower prices. If you'd rather pay more for the same product, then go for it. But most people really don't care about why it's cheaper.

1. Alot of businesses will be using that loop hole. 2. Every good business grows and pushes others out of business. That's a major component of the free market.

1. All businesses manufacture products for the least cost possible. It's idiotic to produce something for more than you have to. 2. Not any more, from what i've seen there's a lot of elderly people working in supermarkets now.

Mostly because of unethical business practices. They also treat they're employees like crap.
