Why do some teachers need to feel powerful?Topic
If I were to suggest, I'd say mixed reasons; while some teachers may like to pick on particular individuals, many others may, as you say, feel powerful from a lot of their past experiences with students. I've spotted these cases countless times throughout my times in school--many of the teachers start out kind, charitable, and forgiving, but it's usually not very long before most everyone begins to take advantage of it. Eventually the teachers become fed up with their students' impudence and decide to take negative action...which overtime slowly turns into an uncontrollable habit. So, in my opinion, the fact that a portion of the teachers today are harshly controlling is mainly because they are afraid of students taking advantage of them. Then again, I could be wrong.
Personally, I usually don't care what kind of tasks or rules I'm given by my superiors...as long as its not totally preposterous. Whether I like it or not, I just keep my mouth shut and do as I am instructed. Though that part of me may be abused here-and-there, it does prevent a lot worse things from occuring.
...So, yes, if I were to suggest, I'd say just suck it up and get used to it, as you're bound to get a lot of that mess in life.
