I have no idea how the movie industry works and I don't understand why movie studios would release 'blockbuster movies' back to back each week to compete with other blockbuster movies? There's enough money to go around for every studio if they just released their films after a few weeks of one another, or during a slow seasonal month. For example, these past few weeks we've seen iron man, indiana jones, narnia, etc... I think some of these movies would make so much more money if they released them no in a competing weekend with other top movies. I think Narnia would of benefited more if they opened during a fall/winter when there are no real good movies out.

because the movie companies are in the movie industry to make money, not be fair to everyone. Thats kinda like saying why doesnt walmart close some stores so target can be more competive, or something like that. The whole point of a business is to MAKE MONEY, not give your competitors money.

yea, I understand that, but at the same time, you're not going to build a home depot right next to lowes. I'm just saying studios would make more money (and that is the point, making more money) if they didn't release some of their movies to compete with other movies. It's like building a mom and pop shop right next to a Walmart---you know it's not going to do well. But if you built one far away from it, it will stand to do better. Sex and the City would do better if it didn't have to compete with other movies like Indy, don't you think? There is afterall, more then enough money to go around for each studio.

I understand what youre saying but its just the fact that the movie studios dont want to share all the money in the movie industry, they want it for themselves, not their competition.

Its called seasons.

Summer is a strong season with more kids out of school and more families are able to go out together. During the winter months, people have less money to spend due to holiday shopping. Its also a more ideal time to release family movies. Then you have the Oscar movies which are released at around the sime and then during the actual Oscar month, when the nominated movies end up taking up theatre space again because it attracts people who want to see why this or that film is nominated for an Oscar.

a lot pepople have moar free time in the summer so there are more people going. if you release movies in summer the dvd can come out for the holidays. indy and sex and the city are going to find their way under a lot of christmas trees. so they have to be released in summer. there are a lot of movies coming out and some of them have to be close together. however its not like indy, the dark knight and sex and the city premiere in the same weekend, these movies are supposed to have legs anyways.
