The dark knight has 2 disc bluray edition, planet earth is like a 4 disc edition. But why do they exist if a single layer bluray is 25gb and like the average movie is only like a gb or two in size. Just wondering.

High-def video takes up more space on the disk.Cherokee_JackThat could be one reason. Another is that some Blu-Ray movies will have some that aren't on the standard DVD, but the main one that I've noticed it that dreaded digital copy of the film...the one that could be put on your iPod or PC. Most people who are so inclined to do so can find other methods to perform those tasks. All it is is just a lame excuse by some studios to jack up the retail price of a DVD by adding a copy most people won't use, anyway.
Well the average DVD movie is only a couple of GB (more like 4) but an HD movie that isn't compressed for putting on the internet is closer to 25 gb depending on how it is compressed. The dark knight has 2 disc bluray edition, planet earth is like a 4 disc edition. HD video takes up a lot of GB along with its interactive features and menus. Since the Blu-ray version of The Dark Knight also has making of videos that are also in HD on the first disc (w/ the movie), I'd think that the memory would take up most of the disc if not all.
My theory is that the first disc wan't completely used up but had enough content that it would take more than one disc to fill it. Therfore, Many of the features were put on the 2nd disc so it wouldn't be so sparse.
Uhh...if a 22 minute episode of a TV show in 720p is around 1.5 GB (give or take a hundred megs or so) to download off of Xbox LIVE then I'm pretty sure a 2.5 hour movie in 1080p will be a LOT more than you think it will be. With the whole 1080p movie, plus all the commentary and audio tracks, most movies will definately take up at least 25GB or more. And then the 2nd disc is the special features (which may or may not be in HD, the box will say if they are). The digital copies don't count. I don't know about you guys, but my 2 disc Blu-Ray of Dark Knight had THREE discs in it. Movie,S. Features, Digital Copy.
Oh, and the digital copy is awesome. I put it on my laptop so I don't have to bring the disc with me places if I want to watch it.
It is pretty stupid. I'm guessing its a marketing tactic to milk us. Once the Dual Layer and Quad-layer blu-ray drives become more common and the discs become more used, im sure it will be harder to justify it. But as long as the majority of consumers are ill informed technologically, companies will continue milking them. Thats just how capitalism works :(II_Seraphim_IIIt's entirely the consumers' faults if they don't care to make informed purchases.

LOL. OMG, a bunch of people who work to provide a good or service make MONEY? Really? Oh noes, whatever are we going to do! We can't have big companies who employ tens of thousands of people all around the world make money!
Sorry, man no offense. I just always find it funny how people always talk about capitalism like it is the root of all evil or something. Most company profits go to labor, so unless you want to tell people to work for free then I don't see a better option. I mean, people hate paying taxes despite the fact that alot of that money goes to public education, medicare, public works, and all that other evil stuff so I'm pretty sure they aren't going to want to work for free.

I never said anything negative about capitalism. Im just saying that because the majority of people are unwilling to get educated technologically, the rest of us who know better still have to deal with inflated prices for collectors editions on 10 discs. I just had to point that out because believe me, I hear people say how capitalism is destroying this and that. I just get the feeling that alot of older people need a "boogeyman" to be scared and wary of whether it be capitalism, the government, terrorists...probably a few dozen more I don't even know about.
LOL and don't get me started on people being technologically ignorant. I actually heard someone utter pretty recently "whats a double-click?"...actually by more than one person. I mean, its almost two thousand-freaking-nine and there are still people that can't open a file?

Actually I love the feature. I have all of them on my PC, and my brother puts them on his iPod. I'm not about to drop $100+ on a Blu-Ray drive for my computer, and the digital copy gets on your computer a LOT faster than a DVD rip does.
