Why? When listening to any metal, you just... do it. Its as natural a reaction as shutting your eyes when you sneeze, or even breathing. I don't headbang to rap, pop, or even regular rock, so why?

I sorta agree. I consider myself very capable in music, I can play guitar and do mildly advanced riffs if I practice enough.

I think we do it because it seems like natural thing to do at a rock or heavy metal show. It just seems right to pound my head up and down with my hair flying every where and then waking up the next day with minor whiplash and muted ears. Plus, it's better than doing the Twist, I dare you to start doing the Twist at a Nevermore concert during Poison god machine.

I don't like heavy metal, so I don't headbang.

Though I did once to Endless Sacrifice by Dream Theater.

Because its part of the culture, and it sometimes just comes naturally with the tempo and speed of the music, and its fun, I headbang till my neck gets sore or get whiplash.

This is especially true for concerts. There's just something satisfying about headbanging for a couple of hours straight to the point where your neck is sore for the rest of the week.

Its the fact that metal heads are imagining that they smash there heads against brick walls since people don't understand your genre of music. Well if you want to call it music. Thats right! I did just say that!

I dont know. It just feels like the natural thing to do. You dont even think about it when you do it.

When the other day I saw Scorpions live, when they played "Rock You Like A Hurricane" I just did it. :P

(although some guys in front of me where over-doing it; to the point where they were like in a shock or something >_>)

Yeah, I guess its because the music is so aggressive, some people dance to the music they listen to, we headbang instead.

I believe that's the equivalent of dancing to certain genres.

Dude if you think you're superior than everyone else keep it to yourself I don't see how being more musically inclined is relevant to head banging so you pretty much just wanted to throw that in there to show your "superiority" over someone else.

Its also the tribal and primitive feel I get as well, the gig I went to reminded me of this a bit, only that everyone was headbanging and the middle of the garage everyone was pummeling each other and performing circle pits, everyone was just having a good time:

People take it out of context now, I believe it's not a symbol of "I like your music, keep it up." Which is sad, it should have stayed with Metal, because it does symbolize the devil horns.
