I mean essentially it's like a ceremony on OT to make these "funeral," thread for "dead," (banned) users.
I think it's sort of pointless, but then again, if it is a user who was pertinent to the community, I'd understand.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Personally I think that most (if not all) bannings are ridiculous. It's just tradition to make a thread for significant (or even barely-known) OT posters if they've been banned. I don't really see how it's problematic. If someone doesn't like those threads, they can ignore them.t3hrubikscubeThis is along the lines of what I was going to say.
I think the better question is: Why you hatin on snipes so much? QuetzaIcoatlThis is what I was actually thinking though.
Really?[QUOTE="Logan1616"][QUOTE="QuetzaIcoatl"]I think the better question is: Why you hatin on snipes so much? taj7575
Yes really.
Why else did you make this thread? There was some point you were trying to prove here.
Actually, I've noticed quite a few bans over the last couple of weeks, and have simply wondered why many people create them. To me, it's better just to contact the "dead," user outside of Gamespot, rather than "eMourning," them.[QUOTE="taj7575"][QUOTE="Logan1616"] Really? :lol:Logan1616

I did see your explanation. While that's likely true, I would suspect the "dead," user to get more attention than whoever created the topic.
[QUOTE="mitu123"]Yes, as I noted with "pertinent," members of the community, as I would say you are mitu. :) Hell yeah, and those threads had users that had an impact on us, definitely Snipes.:DI deserve one, I mean, I didn't make 50k+ posts for nothing.;)

Snipes definitely had some impact on this community, just looking at the page count on his funeral thread. He was a good user with some severely different opinions than the general OT opinion, which is why most of his discussions caused great debate and enjoyment..I think they are a good thing. In a weird sort of way you guys are a part of my life, even if it is just my internet life. It is nice to be able to reminisce about someone and say goodbyes and good riddances as necessary.rragnaarI would probably say so too at this point in my involement/activity here on Gamespot. But still, I just I am just angry at all these funeral threads. The only user I really knew was Snipes, even if he and I did have severely polarized opinions.

I don't think (most of) the people who actually make the topics are thinking about the 'dead' as much as the possible drama that could ensue and the sense of accomplishment from being the one who started it.I remember a thread where the user banned was very new... new to the point where I can't even imagine him coming back to see their own thread because they probably were too new to really care. =/

I remember a recent one was closed with a comment saying something along the lines 'it's threads like these that might make us rethink allowing them at all...'

Usually when they get closed quick it is because they are ban dodgers or they account suicided. This sounds different though. Do you have a link?
I lol'd. :lol:I need closure damn it!

And we need to somehow tell the rest of Gamespot that another user has been banned. Especially if that user is quite well known.
Rebellion at it's best.So we can honor the users who raised their hand against the law of Gamespot.

Imo the TC of a banned thread - 9 times out of ten - is a person who genuinely liked the banned person.
For example, if I happened to open a thread for someone who was banned, my purpose would be that I was sad that they were banned.
Tbh, I think everyone who knows me knows that I don't seek popularity - otherwise I'd be in RC (which I don't) and every popularity thread.

I think nine times out of ten is a bit... ... .. high. Not to say that it doesn't happen, that's generally what the threads are for. But, i don't think it's the case at all with the 'newer' people being banned, and they seem to be the ones getting a lot of threads these days. More so than the older members.

I never mentioned them. Just curious as to why you were/are up so late.

What blows my mind is when someone opens up a thread for someone who suicided or ban-dodged. Those threads, are auto-lock...they aren't supposed to be posted.
This is a prime example where my logic applies. Why, I remember one time there was a thread up before a user even made it through the queue to be banned. I look at these threads and can't help but think the people making them want to draw attention to themselves more than anything. What blows my mind is when someone opens up a thread for someone who suicided or ban-dodged. I would like this done to my user profile if I get banned
