Why do we relate posting count to veracity/time on the site?

we are always like "oh! lvl 1 poster with 100 post YOU MUST BE TROLLING!"

we all were lvl 1 with less than 1k posts at one point here...and most of the people who have low post counts are freshman to the interwebz or to the forums so they dont know how to behave in one and thus they are taken as the forum's clowns...its not precisely that they are intentionally trolling.

as for relating to the time on gs...why do we do this? I just saw a thread about a guy who says he is leaving gamespot after 7 years and nobody believes him because he only has 700 posts.

in case you dont know: you can create new accounts whenever you wish...for example i've been on gamespot since 2006 but I created this account in 2008...so Im just 3 years old in gamespot age just because I created this account in 2008?

Well, everyone knows your post count=e-penis. But I can see why users would discriminate others with very small post counts.

Post count doesn't really mean that much. Mine is relatively low since I post maybe a couple times a week when i see topics that are interesting. I don't think much of it. I've been here long enough that I don't really look at stuff like that and what level you are anymore.

yeah I hate it when you are discussing something in a thread, and there just too many people to quote, so you just quote one and post the reply then quote other. and then someone goes OK WE ALL KNOW YOU ARE JUST POSTING CRAP TO GET YOUR POST COUNT UP! GIVE UP MAN!" seriously...I just do multiposts in a thread because I hate the gs multiquote system...its so damm broken, it gives you a bunch HTML errors

I've been here since September 06. I don't really feel like I'm treated differently because I hardly post anyways :P.

Ive been here since 2005 and I dont have that many posts. About 2 or so years ago I stopped posting for a while. I got a new computer and actually just forgot about this site. About 2 months ago I started posting again and searching through the site. Most of the time nobody respoonds to anything I say so I really only post anything if its something I know a lot about or just have the urge to post something. Things like music threads that say post your favorite band or artist that no one has ever heard or something similar seems futile to me because it seems that it always ends up with people trying to one up each other or something and ends up being 50 pages (exageration) and what I typed ends up being lost in the middle somewhere. Theres countless examples but I think you get my point. I mostly just check out a few topics, read reviews for games, read some news stories(dont care if its old news and already on another site). possibly go through some walkthroughs of games that Im playing at the time. Watch some videos. I know there is other people on this site that are higher levels and have been here longer with less posts than me also.

I wasnt discriminating against the guy that was leaving, i just found it odd... and also besides changing it if you dont like the name, ormaking a new one if your a guy thats was banned, y would you make a new acount...

I really dont care about post counts, cept when mine is really cool (like having the same number like 777 :D), And I dont regard the new people as trolls, except Ive seen that 1/2 of them do make purposely evil stuff... But most of those are just using stupid alt acounts to make trouble

And yes, I dont see a problem with having lots of posts, or putting 1 quote in each post, because its just easier that way

Funny. Ive got responses about that before on another site that I used to be a member of. This person thought I was the actual person in the avatar though. I had to correct them on that. Fear and loathing, what a wild movie. I have seen it in many different states of mind including sober. For people that have seen it they know what im talking about. Have you ever seen the one from the early 80's with bill murray playing the same role?

In the thread you are referring to, It wasn't that we didn't believe him. It was that nobody knew who he was. You could have been here when GS was established but if you don't post or socialize with people here, no one will know who you are.

level ones tend to be trolls or alts for the purpose of trolling. If someone has a more established account, they can be taken more seriously

This sums up what I was going to say pretty well. Once an account gets around level 20 I stop seeing it as just an alt.

Most new members don't immediately gravitate to OT. The serious members mostly go to the other forums first. I didn't post in OT until I was Level 8 myself.

Post count doesn't matter as much as level, since we have a lot of members with a high level and low post count. I'm more suspicious of a Level 1 posting in OT, whereas I wouldn't think twice about a Level 15 with 100 posts.

well you just stated one of the reasons why most do it: to change their e-name. as for doing it because you get banned...thats highly unlikely, because if you dont change your ip address, you'll be banned in a few minutes. As for myself, I changed accounts because I wanted a freshstart...When I created my first account I was a newcomer in the internet, I didnt knew much about so I would usually just make incredibly stupid posts and would be looked by everyone as the forum clown (I admit I was a really stupid kid back then) oh and also because my account name was my actual full name.... so when we got our own internet connection (we connected to my aunt's network before 'cause we didnt had internet) I thought it would be a good idea to have a fresh gamespot start

I've been here since June 2007 but don't even have 2k posts yet. Guess I'm a noob. Some people with big post counts get an ego boost though I don't know why.
