So I was watching a show called Christmas Out Of The Box on the National Geographic channel and it shows the history of xmas. The majority have a misconception that Jesus was born on December 25 but in reality evidence shows that he was most likely born in spring time, most likely in April. And it was some pope who decided Dec 25 would be christmas. With that said, knowing December 25 to be a man made event, nothing to do with Jesus's birth, whats the point of celebrating it if its false?

So why do you celebrate Christmas? Tradition? Santa said so? Monkey see monkey do?

I have my doubts on what you said. Anyway, to answer your question I celebrate it because it's my Savior's birthday.

I celebrate because it's fun putting up decorations, it's a good excuse to have a big feast, and it's wonderful getting and giving presents.

P.S. I knew about the Jesus born in April thing.

Nobody celebrates Christmas for it's religious aspects. Sure, some go to church, but it's just a huge consumer holiday, nothing more.

That is true that the Bible never says that His birthday was in December. Also, you may be right that the date on which He was born is not of importance. What is important is that He was born.

Bingo. I stopped celebrating it when I was old enough to realize that fact. It's just another way to drill consumerism into people's heads.

I celebrate it to get free things of course :D There is no better feeling then getting surprises that are free from parents who have money and can buy you what you tell them you want :) What a great day Christmas is.

There's some religions I believe Jehova's Witness that doesn't. I also know some religions that doesn't celebrate events like xmas, valentines, and halloween because all of those are pagonistic.

Seeing as I'm not Christian, nor am I a member of the paigan group that originally had the celebration on the 25th of December, I celebrate Christmas because my parents enjoy it. I'd be quite happy with Christmasminusgift giving.

So I guess I celebrate it for family time and whatnot

I'm a naturalistic pantheist who doesn't buy in to Christian standards, but I still celebrate Christmas. It's no different from any other corporate holiday, and it gives me a chance to catch up with family. There's no harm in that.

My mother's a Jehova's Witness, and yeah, they pretty much don't believe in any holidays. Also, they believe that the birth of Jesus Christ isn't important at all; it's the death, his sacrafice, that matters. Anyway, even if I wasn't taught the religion, I still wouldn't believe in Christmas because I think that it's a crock of **** that you have to designate a holiday to be "kind to your fellow man". Also, it's very over-commercialized and it just really disgusts me.

Family, gifts, but it really is over-commercialized. I find it funny that it was orignally a pagan holiday but adopted as a Chirstian one :D

True. Also although its nice that people get the "holiday spirit" and do nice things like feeding the hungry and donating things this time of year, it just kinda ****** me off how come they only do it only this time of year and not all year long.
