The scripture says, 'blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy'. I'm all for voluntary charity.

Lol. It would be nice if the government gave us a choice. I would still donate to some charities I believe in, though.

Right, I should have elaborated. I didn't mean to sound like a cold-hearted jerk. I donate to charity voluntarily, I just don't enjoy having it ripped out of my paycheck.

I agree. Reaching into your own pocket to help someone is praiseworthy. Reaching into someone else's pocket to help someone is immoral.

If someone is presented in front of me in my day to day activity that I have the opportunity to help, I'll usually try and do whatever I can for them.

Yeah, since I was smart enough not to have kids, I wish the government would stop spending my money on schools and stuff for those who couldn't keep their pants on.

Funny thing is, that is only avaliable to poor, which is not really universal in the end.magicalclick

Well, that's not true. Those who choose not to have healthcare will be forced to buy it.

Feed a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, he'll become frustrated at it, for he doesn't have any patience. Then he'll snap his fishing pole in half, say "Screw this!" and go right back to the off-ramp begging for money.

Well, I think we are forced to pay tax for it, but, that doesn't mean I am elegeable to apply it. If I am not rejected or able to pay the private insurance, I can't apply to the government one anyway. Meaning, I want to apply the government one, but, they don't let me because I have enough money for private one. Hence, the fake universal healthcare.magicalclick

No. In the current bill, IIRC, you will be forced to buy insurance. It doesn't matter that you aren't eligible. The government is forcing the insurance companies to accept you. If you still don't buy it, you'll be fined.

Not really, given the relatively minute amount of the budget that welfare represents. I can understand the moral offense at the abuses of the system, but as a purely practical matter, it's not responsible for much of the actual cost to taxpayers.

Having been in the situation many times where I relied on peoples kindness to get through, I can tell you the extra help from random people really keeps those who are having trouble sane. I woulden't have a computer if someone woulden't have been kind enough to give it to me. I wouldent have other things I have because of the kindness. Even if you aren't willing to give money give away old clothes etc that some family might be in need of. It makes a HUGE difference. And those who really need help wont look down on any help even if it's just old stuff.

They were debating over 2400 pages of nothing, then?

That is the bill they were discussing trying to squeeze in during reconciliation.

Sorry, I'm not going to tick off every example for you. The fact is, the government takes enough money away from me in taxes, so I should be all set for not having to give away anymore of my hard-earned money.

government is forcing the insurance companies to accept me "at what price"? Surely I don't get the same price as the poor, so.....................magicalclick

You're going to have to elaborate on what you mean. I would assume since you have a precondition that makes you ineligible that you would be more expensive than an average poor person.

Nope, the precondition is only because I can pay more, nothing else. The bill only ensure enrollment, but, not price. And if I can't prove I can't afford it, the government is not going to help me negoaciate with the company.magicalclick
