Because the government doesn't give me a choice.

Lol. It would be nice if the government gave us a choice. I would still donate to some charities I believe in, though.

Right, I should have elaborated. I didn't mean to sound like a cold-hearted jerk. I donate to charity voluntarily, I just don't enjoy having it ripped out of my paycheck.

I wasn't calling you one. I happen to whole-heartedly agree with you.

You aren't under the impression that the bulk of your tax revenues are going to benefit the poor, are you?[QUOTE="airshocker"]

I agree. Reaching into your own pocket to help someone is praiseworthy. Reaching into someone else's pocket to help someone is immoral. You aren't under the impression that the bulk of your tax revenues are going to benefit the poor, are you?xaos
In many ways they are.
Universal healthcare, for one.
If someone is presented in front of me in my day to day activity that I have the opportunity to help, I'll usually try and do whatever I can for them.

We don't have universal healthcare, though healthcare is a factor, nearly as large as defense[QUOTE="Atmanix"]

Yeah, since I was smart enough not to have kids, I wish the government would stop spending my money on schools and stuff for those who couldn't keep their pants on.[QUOTE="Atmanix"]

We will.
Are you happier with welfare being an example?
Funny thing is, that is only avaliable to poor, which is not really universal in the end.magicalclick
Well, that's not true. Those who choose not to have healthcare will be forced to buy it.
Well, I think we are forced to pay tax for it, but, that doesn't mean I am elegeable to apply it. If I am not rejected or able to pay the private insurance, I can't apply to the government one anyway. Meaning, I want to apply the government one, but, they don't let me because I have enough money for private one. Hence, the fake universal healthcare.magicalclick
No. In the current bill, IIRC, you will be forced to buy insurance. It doesn't matter that you aren't eligible. The government is forcing the insurance companies to accept you. If you still don't buy it, you'll be fined.

Not really, given the relatively minute amount of the budget that welfare represents. I can understand the moral offense at the abuses of the system, but as a purely practical matter, it's not responsible for much of the actual cost to taxpayers.[QUOTE="magicalclick"]Well, I think we are forced to pay tax for it, but, that doesn't mean I am elegeable to apply it. So basically, the same thing as a single-payer system except we have a whole industry sitting between us and our docs who have to make THEIR profit?

They were debating over 2400 pages of nothing, then?
That is the bill they were discussing trying to squeeze in during reconciliation.

Sorry, I'm not going to tick off every example for you. The fact is, the government takes enough money away from me in taxes, so I should be all set for not having to give away anymore of my hard-earned money.
government is forcing the insurance companies to accept me "at what price"? Surely I don't get the same price as the poor, so.....................magicalclick
You're going to have to elaborate on what you mean. I would assume since you have a precondition that makes you ineligible that you would be more expensive than an average poor person.
i have an old gba and gba games plus gboand gamepacks and now that i said that ialso have 6 harry potter movies 3 vhs 3 dvd,s and 4 harry potter books. :)

That's how it's been since this whole debate on healthcare started.
Nope, the precondition is only because I can pay more, nothing else. The bill only ensure enrollment, but, not price. And if I can't prove I can't afford it, the government is not going to help me negoaciate with the company.magicalclick
We've been talking about two different things, then.
