At this point it makes no logical sense. Most Macs that are out are outdated as soon as they are brought in many areas, but in many areas are much better than windows. If you make the hardware cheaper, which it should be, it would attract more dev support and customers. Then, whicever has more first, will attract the other, and then the OS starts getting taken seriously, and Windows Near monopoly would subside. Even CHROME BOOKS have more market than Apple just last year and those are just failing every 2 seconds. There's no reason not to lower Mac prices, not one. There's also no reason to make more variety in Macs, at all. There's also no reason for acessories to cost as much or more than the damn laptop. There is nothing premium about Mac as there is nothing premium about the Iphone5.

Do you have any data to support that clame?
I've yet to see a single person at my university with a chrome book, while I see dozens of Macs daily.
Also, its standard economics, demand determines price. Apple products are in a constant demand, so get a high price were they profit allot from.
Heck you can find this everywhere. Glock can pop out a Glock 19 for under a hundred dollars then proceeds to sell them at 500$+

Apple has done an amazing job at marketing. The more expensive their products, the more prestigious and better the consumer thinks they are. Their high cost makes people want the product more. It's genius.
When you are making immense amounts of revenue from your products and people go out their way to obtain it even at a high price, it would be foolish for Apple to lower their prices. The consumer buys it, whats the necesity for it?
Because Apple does not compete on price. They don't care what a "comparable" PC or tablet or phone retails goes for at configuration A,B, or C, etc, etc. Apple competes on features (barely) while strongly marketing the hardware/OS ecosystem for each device (ie, iCloud, iTunes, iTunes Match, App Stores, etc). And if you've seen APPL's stock price for the last few years....you can easily understand why they will continue to do this for....ever. :-)
Apple's audience isn't concerned about technical specifications or cost efficiency. They're buying the marketing, the brand name, the ecosystem, and in some cases the hipster sense of identity.
Because the perceived quality by customers will automatically decrease. That is a rule of marketing. The higher the price, the higher the perceived quality. No wonder we have an Apple "cult" because many of those idiots think that Apple products have extremely high quality.

this,their not lowering their prices is part of their "elite behaviour" pattern that attracts sheep.ohhh,they dont lower their prices that mean its good,cause it still sells.they dont compromise to their clients,their clients compromist to them.its amazing what they have accomplished
having macbooks is a status symbol. so there will be always idiots who will buy them just to make themselves seem cool. i am in the minority of people who actually like their hardware and don't really care about the name. but i do think they are overpriced.

It's so that only people with quite a bit of money can buy them, if everyone has them then it's no longer a fashion accessory, it would no longer be hip or cool to say "I have a Mac".
