I just bought a new LED HD TV, and i hooked it all up and the picture quality is terrible. Cable looks terrible, and so does my PS3.

I do not have an HDMI cable, but it still should not look this bad. My old SD TV looked at least 5 times better. What am I doing wrong?

You have a good connection with the cable and you do have HD service right?

I would guess it does have to do with your cable then? as this shouldn't really happen...

I would give it a try otherwise get a refund

sounds like you have a HDTV, but are running SD programming, which often looks worse. Especially if it's a cheap TV. You need to get HD cable (or at least hook up your current box with component cables), and hook up your PS3 with component or better as well. In fact, never use ANY cable less than component (kinda funny; I am into this stuff so I have been hooking up my DVD player with component since 1999). My recommendation: get HDMI for your PS3, and order HD cable.

I think it might be a cable/connection issue.

Yea its a cables/service issue. HDTV's only look good if you are feeding it with high quality feeds. When I tried to watch TV on my HD when i first got it it looked grainy and worst then before. I immediately went out and got an HD box and the difference was huge. Looks like you got more buying to do.

This.

When I bought my 1080p TV looked like crap. It's because an SD tv actually smooths things out with it's lack of resolution. When you view an SD source your TV is having to expand all the pixels out just to fit the screen. With an HD source, and a good cable like all the others have mentioned, this isn't a problem.

Also, when I hooked up my Xbox for the first time it wasn't mindblowing graphics! I had to go into the settings and tell the Xbox I was using an HD TV. You may have to do this for your PS3.

exactly... my best metaphor is that reg cable is crap and the hdtv is magnifying that crap. just pop a blu ray into your ps3 and get an hdmi cable have everything set to 1080p is your tv is full hd or 1080i if not and check it out your eyes hd virginity will be losed

You need an HDMI or component cable for your PS3 to get HD - I'm betting you still have the composite cable that came with the console, which peaks at 480i and will look godawful when scaled up on an HDTV. And regular cable looks varying degrees of awful depending on the quality of the video scaler in the TV. Newer TVs seem to scale low quality signals worse than old TVs, for some reason, and certain brands and models are worse than others too.

Consoles and Blu-ray? That's why I have mine - I still get regular cable.

Okay, but if you don't have HD cables, then it's still useless.

That's true. I'm sure a lot of people just buy HDTVs and then continue to hook everything up with coax and composite cables, which is a bit depressing.

Seriously, buy HDMI cables. You can find them cheap, as low as a few bucks on Amazon, and the quality is quite good.

Let's put it this way...if you take a 2 megapixel image and upsize it to 5 megapixels, it's gonna look like crap. There's not enough signal in the 2 MP image to fill that 5 MP space, so the other 3 megapixels are going to get filled in with bull****.

As far as your PS3, your cables probably can't handle HD data transfer. It''s like eating mashed potatoes with a straw. Your cables are probably limiting the data transfer between your PS3 and TV, in which case only a standard definition signal gets through. And again, standard definition on an HDTV looks like ****.

Get HD programming from your cable company. Also, use better cables that can handle HD capacity. That'll fix your problem.

Have you bought HD cables for your stuff, if not than thats your problem. you need to be outputting in HD, the TV itself isen't going to magicly pull out a 1080P picture with an SD connection

I thought this was common knowledge. Say you're filling a bucket with a garden hose. If you double the size of the bucket does the water come out of the hose any faster?

This guy here knows what he's saying. If you play an old VHS on a brand new 60'' plasma, it will still look like crap, only worse because the picture is stretched even more than it used to be, making it seem like it's at an even lower resolution.

SD picture looks even worse on an HDTV than it does on an SDTV. If you want HD Picture for your PS3, you're going to need to get HDMI cables (If you know where to look on the web, you can get these for less than $10). If you want to view cable TV in HD, than you are going to have to upgrade to an HD package and get HDMI or component cables to hook up your cable box with. You should already have all of your network channels (like FOX, NBC, CBS, and ABC) in HD. Every TV is different, but try putting a .1 or -1 after their number on your remote. You might have to do a channel scan.

common sense = an HDTV needs an HD signal to look good... feeding it SD sources isn't what it was built for
