I work at blockbuster and every horror movie that comes out, everyone thinks its stupid or lame or something. Some of them deserve it (Dark Water) but it seems like all of them are hated. I admit I used to think they were all bad, like back when all we had was Fear Dot Com, Darkness Falls etc.

When The Ring and Grudge came along i really liked them (you can tell) and thought they had a good chance to bring the genre back. But it looks like the general feeling is that they suck too. And I loved their sequels too, alot. And i liked Silent Hill, but it seems alot of people hated it too. How do you guys feel?

Well lately they have been getting back on track with horror movies, but since at least 1990 they have been suckin', way too predictable, YAY they are finally catching on.

I don't like them at all. I also find it ironic that you own a pink ds and like scary movies.

I don't like horror movies. They're kind of crude and just not that entertaining usually.

I love horror movies, but the ones now a days really are bad. We are plagued by nothing original, too many sequels, and too many remakes.

I'm getting sick of 'horror' movies trying to scare us by dumping buckets of blood and gore around, and expecting us to be frightened.

I like watching horror movies even if they're bad. That's half the fun of watching them is to anticipate their stale story and cheesy "scare moments". I tend to enjoy disturbing movies more than horror movies. Movies that gross you out and screw with your head. Like Hostel (even if thats a bad example)

I thought The Grudge sucked, but The Ring was pretty scary. It gave me a few nightmares I think. I rarely like horror movies btw.

I really love horror movies, but now, they just suck. :? Each movie seems to end the same, having predictable scenes, not being scary as they use to be.

I really liked it. Not alot of scary parts but the things the imagery create with the computers AND the original Ringu director at the helm was amazing. The image of the water flying out of the bathtub is one of the most beautiful (and kinda freaky things ive seen in a movie), and even though the deer going crazy was a bit dumb, it was really cool to watch.

Grudge 2 scared me pretty well though. Couple dumb parts but I liked how Raimi was done ****ing around with people and you didnt just get killed in the dark alone, you could be in broad daylight surrounded by people and it would get you. Pretty sweet I thought.

Well i blame Wes Craven. I mean as fantastic as scream was it should of been the end of slasher horror. Now all you have is a bunch of directors who think they are reinventing cinema by waiting till the final scene to break one of cravens rules, come on as if that makes up for the predictable nature of the entire rest of the script. A return to splatter is what I say is needed and we should all be hoping that the House of Re-Animator still gets made.

The Grudge and The Ring were horrible to me. Samara was a hottie in The Ring, so I kept on thinking naughty things about her. The Grudge just sucked.

The Ring? The Grudge? *shudders*

I hated those movies... then I saw "Ringu" and "Ju-on" and was saved from thinking all horror movies had hit rock bottom.

Most of them suck because they are remakes of other good films. LIke the grudge was a japanese remake. The japanese version scared the crap out of me because it had a lot more suspense in it.. Go watch the japanese version of the grudge and compare it to the american version and it will seem like crap.

Horror movies have traded in their original plot lines, musical tracks and Nightmare inducing scenes for excessive gore and nude scenes.

I mean, back then all of these were in movies but now it's all just cliches.

Really? I heard it was lame.
[QUOTE="Magna_Man109"]i hate watching horror movies now, i had a bad experience when i was younger with horror movies, i used to watch like ever Freddy Kruger and Jason and Texas chainsaw moveis all the time.... now im always scared to watch them

Me too. When I was a kid I watched Village of the Damned at night, went to bed and my parents found me later downstairs on the couch staring straight forwards. Probably scared the crap out of them.
[QUOTE="Denjin_hadouken"]Most of them suck because they are remakes of other good films.

I stopped looking at it that way, because I found alot of people are just sick of remakes so they dismiss it as automatically bad (i see it all the time), but I was missing out on good movies. Almost every movie is based on something (really) and I would have missed out on alot if i kept up with that.

I rarely watch horror movies to begin with, but there hasent really been a bad one that I've seen yet. Granted some of them are more worried about the gross out factor, useing gore when suspense is so much sweeter.

Wasn't a huge fan of The Ring and The Grudge to be honest, don't get me wrong i have them in my DVD collection because i can appreciate the good aspects of them but they just didn't "do" it for me. I'm more of a slasher kind of horror fan myself.
