just curious. honestly, i like it all. i like alot of the newer stuff because of the deeper vocals. i cant stand the high pitched vocals of songs like "seek and destroy". besides the actual instruments sounding better back then (i'll admit, they were harder), why dosnt anyone like the 'newer' metallica?

because it sucks? (MY OPINION!)

I honestly can't listen to anything after that Blackened ablum (or w/e its called). I just think its terrible compared to some of the older stuff.

Just what I was gonna say, their earlier stuff was the best.

can anyone explain in detail? examples, and such?

thats like people saying that Load and Re-load sucks. they have some good songs. and imo, S&M made 2 of those songs (outlaw torn, and bleeding me) 10Xs better.

They used to be speed metal, but the newer stuff is slower & more structured, which just puts them elsewhere in the whole metal vein. It's not them.

It's simple. They were Giants in their time and the times changed. They knew this, and so they tried to change with the times. They may appeal to some newer metal fans (if you can call that metal, it's more hard rock) because they weren't there when Master Of Puppets was dominating the scene.

Metallica should have given up long ago, and if they had to keep writing stuff then they should have followed in Megadeth's example and kept it old school.

When I think about what Metallica could have achieved if Cliff hadn't died and they hadn't given up on Dave.. :(

How ignorant of you. Listen to Call Of Ktulu. It's instrumental and it's the S&M version so perhaps the Orchestra in the background can convince you of it's musical genius.

Calling it genius is my opinion, but you should be more open minded in the future. Not just with music, but with everything.

It's just not the same, it's like a completely different band. I feel that way about everything released after The Black Album.

I like some of the old and some of the new. Different styles are cool with me. I don't expect Metallica to remain the same forever.

because Metallica's first four albums > everything they've put out for the past 16 years.

And if amazingly enough Metallica does put out an album that's better than whatever has come out in 16 years, it just won't sound the same because James just doesn't have that growl that he used to back in the 80s.

Metallica used to be (first three albums) one of the best, if not the best and most influential thrash metal bands of the 80s. Anything after those three albums signifies their musical decline, because they stray from the heavy, thrashy riffs to the more mainstream sound.

Name a 'good' metal band that doesn't think of early Metallica as one of their influences?

They used to be these hardcore, face-stomping, heavy metal, then they got all slow and emotional. Instacrap.

QFT. Old Metallica was the bottom of the barrel as far as thrash metal goes anyways.

The only metal I've been listening to recently is Electric Wizard, Bongripper, and Eyehategod.

Sludge and doom, mostly.

thats because his voice cracked or something. i either read it in "So What, the good, the mad, the ugly" or watched it in "Some Kind of Monster" where he was talking about it.

i like everyones opinion (except the ignorant people who say "i like music" or stupid crap like that). but i have to agree with nathinhawkin. i like change, and am interested in seeing what they'll sound like in the future.
