Why isn't one hundred: ten tens? Because we need to make it as simple as possible. Do you really want to say "ten hundred forty three"?immortality20

[QUOTE="Avitu666"]Why do we call apples "apples" and not "kwyjibos"?

sonicare
You call them apples? :P
Â
of course, considering the description of a Kwyjibo is:
kwyjibo \kwee-jee-bo\ n. 1 : a bald, overweight, North American ape of below average intelligence.
Who says there's no science in the simpsons? :p
It is a bit odd, because you hear things like 2600 as "twenty-six hundred" sometimes.Articuno76
I mainly hear that from old people and American TV shows; I've always been taught "two thousand six hundred" or "one thousand five hundred" for example. And it takes about 0.5 seconds longer for me to register the value of "twenty six hundred" compared to the alternative pronunciation.
