Statistically, most of the points are scored by kicks.
EDIT: Apparently, it's pretty much a descendant of football(soccer) so the creators just kept the name.
Kickoffs, extra points, field goals, punts...there's enough feet involved.BladeOfHeaven
don't think that's enough, the hands are used much more than the feet, it should be called handball ( even if handball already exists), or advertisement ball since every 2 minutes there are advertisements or pause ball because the game is paused every 2 minutes

:o Every time they're using their hands they're also using their feet. ;)

Yep that's pretty much it. We do things differently because we're American. And to answer the question that this brings up no it doesn't make sense.

No, it should be humanbodyball. :)
I personally think it should be called Americanball. We're the only country that plays it so why not? :P

so american football is actually called gridiron, I'll call iot that way from now on because that makes mor sense than football
Why is soccer called soccer?
grenadexjumpr
that actually has a reason, some guy below just explained it, tried to put a link but dididn't work
still hate the guy who did that because thanks to him a lot of people call actual football soccer and call gridiron football

Advertisement balls is a good idea! :)
I tried watching a few american football matches, but its just not worth it when they stop every 2 minutes and show commercials.
Just seems like all show and no sport.

What about Canadians. Canadian Football sounds kilometers beter than Canadian Americanball.
Every football game starts with a kick and sometimes ends with one. >_>SoraX64
but hands are used much more than feet on gridorin

everyone calls soccer football, only americans call it soccer and even when only americans call football soccer it's annoying, football was created before gridorin and feet are used much more on football than on gridorin

Soccer and football are interchangeable terms that mean the same thing. The question is in the topic is why american football is called football.
Because it is. Why do people really care what it's called. It's not a hard concept to understand that different words or phrases in different regions of the world may mean different things. When people say football in the states I know what they mean. When people say football in europe, I know what they mean, too. It's really not that hard of a thing to figure out.

It was probably solidruss. I think he enjoys his mod powers a bit too much. If not him, my second guess would be MAILER_DAEMON.No, it should be humanbodyball. :)

I learned somethin today. :)
There is a good article in Wikipedia on the history of American football here that provides some good answers.
I'd recall that. They do use their feet. They run don't they?
coolkid93
you also use your foot on basball to fun and it's not called football
You use your feet to run, and the game involves use of a ball. SO, it is perfectly logical. If the ball was round like a soccer ball.. and they still didn't kick all the time.. would it still be a football?it really doesn't make sense to me, you barely use your feet on american football and it's called football
