It is vanity incarnate. Nothing wrong with wanting to be healthy or strong, but to do it merely to tan/oil yourself up and strut around for judges is ridiculous. Not to mention that it is freakish. Nobody would ever look like that naturally.

What's the point. "Oh look, that guy is incredibly strong and greased up in a speedo!", I don't see the appeal in that. Now if it was like "Hey look, that guy is incredibly strong and is ripping that door off of that burning car to save the driver." that would be different. It seems all of these body builders are just competing with other body builders or just creating a challenge with themselves. Now if you work out and get pretty muscular, good for you. Once you get to competion status, it's all for sport, and not really practical.

I think the veins and stuff freaks me out for some reason, I don't mind it but the people really strong or people that have used steroids freaks me out.

No hate coming from me over body building. Just another build of people, like fat ones, skinny ones, curvy ones, bulky ones. Taken to the extreme it does make me feel uncomfortable to look at, I wouldn't want to be like that.

I don't have any problems with bodybuilding, but that is partly attributed to the fact I am a weightlifter/bodybuilder. I do it for myself though (naturally) and I have never had aspirations to compete. I just much more prefer being muscular and in great shape.

The thing that puts me off the most is how their thighs chafe as they walk. I would imagine they can't move very fast either.

It gets to the point where it looks ugly instead of impressive. Seeing veins is also very unappealing imo. But regular bodybuilders like on bb.com that look natural in clothes and not like inflated ****** are really cool :)

You do realise that most bodybuilders suffer from a reverse form of anorexia, and that their desire to be bigger is due to a form of body dismorphia? Vanity has very little to do with the mindset of most.

I don't have a problem with it. I think that female body builders look terrible, though.

The thing that gets me about the really big guys, is that they're really not in shape. They have absolutely shredded bodies, but that doesn't say anything about their cardiovascular system. A lot of them die from heart attacks. Their heart has to work really hard to supply blood to all the muscle. Coupled with the fact that again, their cardio is usually not that great.

I've seen big body builders who are breathing very hard just going about their day quite leisurely. Something as simple as taking food out of their cupboards and they're really breathing hard.

The entire competition of bodybuilders is made up of people with apsychotic disorder? If that's allowed then why can't we have schizophrenia wrestling?

Dead set, man. I'm mates with one who is honestly ROUND from a distance, but he's all muscle, and is convinced he needs to put on size in order to be considered big.

While I don't hate the 'sport', I dislike the fact that it's all looks. However pumped up they look, those men are not that much stronger than the average person. Bodybuilders focus on high repetition and low weight training. The idea is to gain mass, not strength. If you notice, men who compete in the Worlds Strongest Man competition look nothing like bodybuilders.

like everything in life taking it to the extreme is never good...i think it is perfectly fine to work out and i do it myself...but bodybuilding is just wrong! you look nasty with so big muscles and i completely lose respect for them when i know they take steriodes...yes it is impressing to see what they can bench etc. but i would never ever wanna look like they do...also imo it is not a life to spend so much time in the gym(just like if you spend too much time on any other sport, or grind all night and day in wow)

the amount of ignorance in this thread....is astounding. example - To get body builder-worthy quads and glutes, you basically have to get to a stage where you can squat 2.5x your bodywieght at LEAST. An average person would have trouble squatting 1x their bodywieght.

Alright, I exaggerated when I said that they are not that much stronger than the average person. For that I apologize, but look up how much Strongmen can squat and you'll see what I mean. I have nothing against bodybuilding, I'm just saying that they do not train for strength.

most of you guys bagging it are talking from ignorance

you have no clue how rigorous your diet has to be and how much time and effort you have to put into training. youthink youcan just inject a steroid then go sit on the couch and watch TV and not do any work.

it requires immense dedication to prepare and eatabout 8 meals aday of consistent portions or protein/fat/carbs. Plus alot of guys still have to work full time jobs on top of bodybuilding and getting in the gym most days for 2-3 hours.

Though I wouldn't classify myself as a bodybuilder I use to train with the same consistency and I can say pretty much all of you wouldn't even last a week. Working out so hard you feel like puking

yes, they train for aesthetics, but far better-than-average strength is just a welcome side effect. Just how powerlifters don't care about how they look, but being XBOX HUGE is just a cool fringe-benefit. Overall, being a body builder is still (excluding steroid use) healthier than just sitting around all day, or just doing cardio : /

you eat lots of fatty foods eh? nothing silly about being totally sculpted. and you have the wrong idea of body builders. it's not all steroids, massive biceps and all that. you can body build with a rigorous training program and natural supplements, which won't make you look like a giant freak. Bruce Lee was a serious body builder. nothing "silly" about him or his strength.

you bring up an excellent point that bruce lee also brought up. one day a friend and himself were walking by a gym when a failry large man stepped out. his friend told bruce how big the man looked. but bruce said "yes, he is big, but is he strong?" bruce lee did body building for functional strength. and while he definitely did look like a shredded piece of marble statue all of his work outs benefited him in martial arts. especially his ridiculous leg and forearm strength. this is the man who kicked a 150LB bag and sent it flying 15 feet in the air
