Why is DBZ so hated?

I apologize for yet another DBZ thread, but this has me wondering. It seems like everywhere I go, DBZ gets more hate than it does love. Now, I'm all for respecting other people's opinions, but I just can't seem to see the "terribleness" of DBZ while I'm watching it. It's pretty ironic how it's considered a classic yet gets more hate than most classics (be it anime, movies, games, etc.) do.

Is it the pacing of the show that throws most people off? Ex: the infamous "5 minutes for Namek to explode, but takes 12 episodes". Because there's always DBZ Kai, which has an uncut version.

Screw the others! DBZ is awesome - I' m happy to have grown up watching it.

I think some just like to make fun of the whole 'hyrrraaaaaaaraaaaaayaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagaaaaaaaanaaaaa...'

*shrug* I'm almost 27 now, and I still like the show.

Because while the anime had its merits, especially when released, it was a heavily flawed series.

Its like watching transformers G1 cartoon now, nostalgia has its limits.

I personally do not like DBZ. Also do not like Gundam or Slam Dunk.

It's pretty good, but the original was too padded. Kai is better, but it doesn't hold up as well over time.

Because it's crap, it has so many terrible qualities and only runs on nostalgia.

A few months ago I started watching it again. I got bored of it before Goku turned SS1. There's just too much cheese and the pacing is terrible.

it takes forever for something to happen...one of the worst paced shows ever.

I seen lot of anime int he 90's and I would say DBZ is slow paced just as one piece is battle that never end but they where some Fight that is still fun to watch Occasionally it Hit but I liked Bunch of anime people never really heard off Like Trigun and Berserk you ask to new generation what it is : they have no clue at all

some anime of now day are just far superior to what was in the 90's in term of content And Graphic but there but also Often too short and leave people with a craving for more which never get satisfied since they just end it there just like when ur favorite TV show you been following for 2 year end up with a mega huge cliff-hanger of what might have happened.

to only find out they remaking that same series 10-15 year in the future and rewrite the whole story and make it look awful then end it 2 year later Just like movie lol Terminator 4 and what else

Anyhow i Know bunch of peopel from the 90's all Hype About a Dragon Ball Z movie in 2013 when they where angry at Dragon Ball Z Kai Result mindblown.

I don't think it's hated, it's just been around a long time, and every year a new group of kids "discover" it for the first time, and post the same discussions/topics we've been seeing for over 15 years.Nuck81

I don't think that it's hated. I think that people just like to make fun of the series. Most of those jokes revovling around how it takes 20 episodes for a single fight.

They're mad the current crappy anime shows they watch aren't as revered.

People will judge it based off of one episode when they hear someone charging up and think it doesn't have any depth or plot when in fact it does.  Yes, some fights do drag on quite a bit, but to say it doesn't have a plot is wrong.

I don't hate it but without nostalgia the show is mediocre at best. Tons of pacing issues and the writing is all over the place.
