Why is farting more embarassing than burping?

Both are releases of gas, but they come out of different ends. Burps can smell too, and they can be much louder than farts.
EDIT: All farts don't smell. What about those?

It's just the sound and knowing where it's coming from. Or even worse those silent but deadly farts. Those can clear out entire rooms.

Well, farting is connected to the act of taking a dump on the toilet, which isnt really an empowering situation to be in. Burping isnt connected to something like that. . wait perhaps puking! hmm this is too big of a mystery for me to solve, we have to call in the Hardy Boys!
