Back in the day, heck, 50 years ago even... woman were, by todays standards, considered objects.

They were socially forced into doing tasks in the home which including taking care of the children.

While she was allowed to give input on important decisions, she really didn't have any say in the matter.

Men ruled the world back then. As a result of WWII, feminism took hold, and society changed forever.

However even today, some families still believe in these gender roles, perhaps to the extent that we saw in the 50s.

In this context, would you:

* Consider this the objectification of women?

* Do you think it's appropriate?

* What if the men and women in the family agree to it?

You will only get responses like "They're free sandwhich makers, so I approve"

Because there are no women on the internet.

in my opinion america has done some dumb things, "not let women vote, slavery, etc" i mean if you wannna go back to the stone age i'm sure theres a woman out there who lets a guy walk all over her. Good luck and that wouldn't fly now i mean sure some people are still like this but times a changing

Feminism isn't a result of World War 2. People have been calling for women's rights for along time I'm afraid. If your refering to the how many women worked in the factories during the war the same thing happened during the Civil War. However to be on topic I'm not opposed to the concept of objectification in and of itself but it is undeniable that there is a discrepency in how men and women are evaluated in todays society and with women often times the all or at least the majority of their worth as a human being is along sexual lines.

Actually WWII was pretty influential to the feminist movement. When the men were shipped out to fight, who do you think worked in the factory's and mills? That was a kick start for the feminist movement.

The same thing happened during the civil war and women of color had been holding down jobs for quite some time prior to WW2

In a world where women are free to walk out the door on their husband, whatever roles they occupy in the home are reasonable and appropriate. It's immoral to treat every woman like pleasure bringing milk dispensers for the same reason it's immoral to exclude certain races. You aren't giving them a chance to prove their worth, so they are stuck at whatever level of importance you put them. If the woman walks around in a bikini all the time though, she clearly wants to be objectified, so that's not immoral.

Treating women like an object is only wrong if they do not wish to be treated like an object. If a woman is happiest being taken care off and fulfilling traditional gender roles than more power to her. That being said women should be given the choice as to which they would prefer to do. So a long answer short; Women as a whole shouldn't be treated like objects but if an individual woman is happiest being treated like one, meh whatever floats the proverbial boat.

SquatsAreAwesom

I'd think that the point of feminism should ideally be about freedom and choice (equal, not more than a man would have). So if the woman WANTS to sit at home and cook and clean all day, then why would I have a problem with that?

Women should be able to CHOOSE what kind of lifestyle works for them, they shouldn't be FORCED into it.

Ah yes - 50 years ago when housewives got hooked on Valium because they were bored out of their brains. Anyway I enjoy cooking and find ironing and cleaning therapeutic at times - no one should be able to deny my right to hoover just because I'm a man.

It's true. I've know men who look and act more like girls than actual girls I know. Though science says otherwise, it is possible.
