I've grown up living in the south (Georgia) and I've noticed that while living here, it's much more acceptable for black people to dislike white people and discriminate on white people than a white person discriminating on a black person.

If I had a dollar for everytime I spoke with a black person and they made a crack about me being rich just because I'm white and then having hostility over this idea, as if it was even true, I would actually be rich.

When I went to public middle school, I was one of very few white kids in the middle school and I was referred to as "white boy", as if my name was not relevant to my existence. But if I were to say "black boy" then everyone's ears would perk up and they'd pull out the race card.

I don't get it.

My mom works in a prison as the head nurse and this prison guard that was on duty was on the computer and was watching youtube videos of some Muslim 'white hate' junk and it was totally cool, even when my mom asked him very nicely to turn it off. And he turns to her and asking for so and so amount of acres (yes, he's making a racially motivated comment about slavery and how he deserves reperations) out of nowhere.

But if someone were to watch KKK clan rallies on the computer and talking about white power this white power that OH MY GOD the entire black population would roll over and call their lawyers.

I'm hoping this doesn't get modded because of my crudeness towards the subject, but its something that's been bothering me.

I know that stupid people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and religions...but if we're going to judge one type of racist, we need to judge them all equally.

The double standards are getting ridiculous.

I think it has become a trend where racism towards black people is less acceptable than racism towards white folk. It is nonsense really.

I don't care about social racism nearly as much as officially endorsed racism. Affirmative Action, race-based scholarships, racial "quotas" for Universities, workplace treatment, and so on are all garbage.

I agree. I think things like that should be earned through hard work, talent, and/or intelligence. Not because of a genetic accident. Not because of the amount of pigment in your skin.

Okay. Well when your white neighbor rapes a girl, then you can take the heat for it just because you're white...you're pretty much the same person he is, aren't you? That seems like a fair trade.

No, but racism has never made sense, and it never will. It's something we have to live with and deal with. I know what you're talking about, and I know it is happening and it isn't right, but racism exists in our society no matter which way you look at it, whether it's Blacks hating whites or vice versa, it exists and there is no stopping it. The best that we can do is educate people on the subject, but there will always be racism. Now I wouldn't call it socially acceptable for Blacks to be racists, cause it isn't at all, but African Americans can definitely push the borders of what is racist more than a white person can (Without being called out on it) because of what happened in the past. You shouldn't accept that kind of treatment though, call them out on it, see what happens, a person being racist is never right.

I hate to say this, but your comments are mostly just valid toward your location and social group.

here where i am, im considered the 'token black guy'. some people only know me by that, even though there are alot of black people in my school, you find some people wearing that tag like myself. Many people here make jokes such as 'go pick some cotton for me', which, i really don't mind at all because its usually a joke, and i laugh at it because i don't have to worry about stuff like that really. It all depends on where you are and the people you hang out with.

As a part of society I don't find it right to be racist against ANY race. Race equality will occur when all races are treated equally. And not until.

I don't mean that literally, I mean many black people still feel white people owe something to repay them and their families for slavery. It is stupid, but if I was in their shoes I would probably feel very differently than I do now.

I remember that part at the airport in the second Harold & Kumar movie where the guy "proves" he's not a racist by saying "Dude, I'm black."

That in itself was racist by implying that folk of African origin are superior in the fact that they cannot be racist.

It's really the amount of security that the individual making the comment feels. A black guy isn't going to make racially motivated comments (usually, but still acceptable if he decided to) if he's the only black guy in a group full of white people. A white guy isn't going to make racially motivated comments (much less often) if he's the only white guy in a group full of black people. It's a gang mentality. The last refuge of a man with no purpose or intelligence must be to revert to taking credit for something he didn't earn or something that isn't even worth merit.

Because that is the way it is. We gave them the race card to play and they play it often. Guess the Jews didn't get such a card for being oppressed since biblical times or the Chinese since they were enslaved in America well before the blacks. I'm Irish, so should I get reparations from the English for how they treated my people in the past? Or I could be Black living in Africa with Black African slaves right now in this day and age. I guess that is why it is still socially acceptable. It's never going to end and it's not the entire population.

Whats it been like 30-40 years since discrimination ended? thats not that long ago. So i can see why there are still people like that. Bottom line is, they're wrong and its nothing thats going to be fixed this generation.

100 years from now maybe? when we all die out and a new generation just look back thinking wtf were those guys doing.

That or i think Racism truly wont end untill wer're faced with an intelligent alien life form. Only then will humans come together.

White guilt?! I don't think ANY white people actually feel guilt over the past. We know that slavery is bad, THAT'S WHY WE DON'T HAVE IT ANYMORE! It's the black people that can't let it go. Even though not a single living black person was a slave in our country. /sigh

I've had abuse hurled at me by Black people, but I never give any back because I'm no racist but I've had racist abuse from white British people as well because of my Greek/Maltese heritage so both races can dish it out evenly.

I love it when people who can't even discuss something as trivial as videogames try and tackle a complex subject such as racism. It's very enlightening.

What a lot of people tend to overlook is that you really don't have to even go back that far (less than 40 years) where in some places black people weren't even allowed to eat in the same places as white people. This stuff doesn't turn off like a faucet. There are going to be lingering effects. We are really only one or two generations removed from public lynchings and people being sprayed with hoses in the streets.. It's unfortunate that we can't get away from it so easily. And there will always be ignorant people who take advantage of this on both sides..Just look at the reaction to the current US president.

This generation may not be as oppressed as previous generations but there are still inequalities that exist...Racism against minorities is deep rooted and something that developed over 100s of years, it doesnt just go away after 40 years. So that is still a relevant factor in why there is racism against Whites. Having said that, I don't think that it should be as accepted as it is but I think in general White people are sometimes walking on eggshells and are somewhat reluctant to address things like this because it is hard to confront a group of people about racism when your people did the same thing on a much larger scale. Thus, it is more tolerated. Not to mention that in some ways it is understandable, I mean if I was a minority who experienced racism and social inequalities I would be angry and prolly resent white people for that. I'm not saying that justifies it, I am just saying that I can see how it could develop.

I love when people who ride on their high horses come to the OT to look smart to all us lowly peons. You're right about the time gap between then and now only being a few decades, but the mentalities of individuals are what perpetuate this kind of thing. If people's minds are ignorant and they aren't willing to expand their minds, then nothing will ever change. I think we just need to start brainwashing people to be awesome and relaxed. =P

BlindBluMonstah

Well, judging by his ignorance, I'm sure he's one of those morons that takes every spiritual text and twists it into his own user-friendly version.

er what xP dude just dont say its a muslim thing when you clearly dont know what islamic stuff is, itd be appreciated thanks... as in islam there is no race but only religion >.>

Do you even understand what I'm saying? You're not getting my point. I KNOW THAT RACE DOES NOT EQUAL RELIGION, but obviously HE DOES NOT. That was the point of the story. A black man hiding behind his misinterpreted beliefs, projecting them onto hating white people. Keyword: MISINTERPRETED Much like the groups of highly hypocritical Christians that are so loony that the Bible isn't even relevant anymore.

never said it did, but I guess the old saying "you reap what you sow" applies here...True this generation is different than before but for some reason, society doesn't accept the fact that it is a new generation.killer336

Eh, I don't think "you reap what you sow" applies in the least, unless you believe in genetically or racially inherited guilt, which would be a belief built on a foundation of its own form of racism.

The reason is rather banal. Society as a whole accepts it. There isn't enough of an outcry against it to bring it strongly into question.

It's the same reason why blacks in America and Europe were persecuted for so long. Comfortable people turned a blind eye. The vocal ones weren't vocal enough, or weren't strong enough in numbers. It took a long time for the abolitionist movement to grow large enough and vocal enough to insist on a change in those societal norms, and at least in America, it took a civil war, just to change the status of black human beings from property to citizenry. And even then, more than another century of bitter mistreatment followed before the mindsets of people who hadn't been alive during the slavery years were changed. When you think about what it took to change this terrible behavior, it's amazing it was able to be accomplished at all.

It will take more people recognizing, without exception, that these minsets are not just invalid but wrong before they will be strongly questioned, and since they aren't anywhere near as harmful as the previous abuses (so far, at least), that isn't likely to happen anytime soon.
