I just saw an advert on NATIONAL TELEVISION with a women belittling men. She said something was so easy, men could do it. If a man was saying this he would be not allowed to air the ad.
Why is it OK for a woman to say it.

You know whats more annoying that people being politically corect? People who go around thinking everything is politically correct and there is an unfair balance, even though there isint.
By the way, and there are a million ads like that that deal with either gender ;)
[QUOTE="Mantorman"]Because we believe in "Political correctness". A perspective deserving of a big fat STFU. taj7575
Just makes my pervious post even truer..
Haha. I wonder what would happen if real life was more like the internet. Whenever someone pleads "sensitivity" on any online community, STFU is like a natural reflex. I can only imagine all the people who would have to endure it. They'd all deserve it, definitely. It'd be the most entertaining thing ever.It showed women failing hard at various things like drilling a wall, changing a tire, etc and said "WOMEN! Dont expect help on a wednesday!" because that's the day Nuts comes out.Ninja-BearI lol'd. Also, I agree with what everyone else says. I don't really care about sexism either way, I thought that kind of stuff was mostly dead these days and only talked about jokingly. =/

lol yes. They pretty much have got us there. Women in most societies for ALL of our history have been repressed. But feminism is also taking away from them as well, hence why you always here "where have all the men gone?" phrase. They made a generation of I'll-be-your-friend-and-hopefully-you-will-like-me-eventually type guys. Just look at half the girl topics in OT.[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"][QUOTE="hancekyle"]

Viva chauvinism!!!
I think you've missed the real issue here! Why is that woman working doing ads on TV when she should be in the kitchen baking me a cake and making some tea?
I think someone hit the nail on the head earlier when they said that it's because the majority of men don't really care. It's exactly the same with the white/black thing. The unopressed rarely care about jokes made at their expense because they aren't dealing with the other part of the problem.
Years and years of opression can help restore the proper balance (where it doesn't matter what nationality or sex you are, you're measured on your merits) however it can quickly go too far in the other direction which is socially deemed acceptable. Like feminist workplace equality where I have to hire X% of female employees to ensure I have a fair and balanced workplace. What a load of horse @#$%. I should be able to hire the best people for the job!
I say let the ad run. If it's all done in good humor and is at the expense of the majority then go for it. Eventually we'll all be able to make jokes of this nature without social discouragement.
I know the exact ad you're talking about, and it's pathetic that even some newspapers (the daily mail... big surprise) decided to report on sexism double standards. Apparently it's sexist to jokingly refer to a cleaning product as 'so easy, a man could do it', and apparently a man could never make such an implication about women in an advert. Only that's a load of nonsense. Remember that advert for Nuts magazine? It showed women failing hard at various things like drilling a wall, changing a tire, etc and said "WOMEN! Dont expect help on a wednesday!" because that's the day Nuts comes out. "ooooh the double standards!' :roll:Ninja-Bear
Lol I remember those ads. Simple awesome
Another awesome ad:lol:
I don't know, it's also socially acceptable for black people to be racist towards whites. It's a double standard society seems to enjoy.
to make them feel better. because they're inferior? perhaps. but maybe cuz they've been treated like crap alot i really hate how i cant truly express myself here... fmacraze
same here :)
Seriously, I don't know where you guys live, but where I live ALL commercials that have to do with this it's always the guy looking like an idiot and whatever, NO MATTER WHAT.
I have literally not seen a single commercial where it's the woman looking stupid and the man looking all smart and perfect. The only time I've ever seen anything like it is they make it seem kinda against a woman, but then it just ends up against the man again.
The same reason it's ok for men to sexually exploit us... both sides have their faults, I'll stop thinking men are total pigs and inferior once they stop thinking with they're dicks and start using there brains.

Perfect post, actually. So this is the same type of sexism, just in the opposite direction. So you see, TC, men are not perfect angels in this battle. The same reason why its acceptable for blacks to poke fun at whites but not the other way around. When your the social oppressed group people are very sensitive to your feelings. However when your the social superior group people turn a blind eye to your feelings.Diablo-B^^ Hit the nail on the head ^^

I have no idea what you're talking about with this one, how does this make it seem like men are great? The guy in the commercial is saying how pathetic 'your man' is. He never says how smelly 'you' are.
Miller Light
This one just makes guys look stupid, as if all they do is sit there and drink beer all day. And then the woman is talking on the phone as if she's so much greater 'he's in his man-box again'.
Miller Light 2
This one might make it seem like it's making women appear stupid or whatever, but when it goes to the guys at the end, see hwo the girl s are looking at them like that? They're just being stupid regular old guys. It's not really making guys seem all smart and perfect and girls being unable to do anything.
These aren't really what I'm talking about, these are in no way as bad as lots of the men ones. I don't really care but I just think it's funny how the men are always portrayed as useless people and women as pefect intelligent beings who rule the house without a hint of trouble ( because the man is probably too stupid in the commerical to be able to rebel).

Okay - you have a very interesting, almost warped way of looking at these. Quite interesting. Old Spice was portraying a man better than another man, yes. But it also portrayed women as as needy and wanting pearls and hot sculpted men and having this fantasy image of men. Pretty much shallow and naive and gold digging. Miller Light;s Man Box was showing superiority of men and how they decide things (the whole campaign was designed to do that) and how the only time a man is okay to leave his friends is if his GF (seen as just an object) is hot enough for him to put her over the friends. Miller Light 2 with the wrestling girls addresses what you are trying to say but the overall idea is that sex sells and that women may not understand that but that is what men want. The thing is, it also assumes that all women will find that commercial offensive (I dont) and that all men want that type of commercial (they dont). Please Log In to post.
