I was at work today checking membership cards at the front door at Costco and I asked a black guy for his card (like I do with everyone). He gave me a funny look and I knew he was going to say something and I was right. After he gave me the card he said like a jerk "you should ask everyone for their cards," implying that I only ask black people. They he quickly walked away because he was a coward and afraid of a confrontation. I then said loudly so he'd hear me as he was walking away: "I do ask everyone for their cards. You don't know what your talking about." I must get at least one customer a week who is implying or just flat out saying that I'm racist. This is very annoying and I've had enough of it, that's why I said what I said to the guy. All the customers are not like that and a lot of the black one's are very friendly but like I said it's at least once a week where some idiot is accusing me of being racist.

Why is this thread a huge generalization:| Just cusa few blacks think your racists doesn't mean the whole black population think all whites are racist.

In my expereince, they do. Quite often any socializing bewteen me and another black person will consist of him taking something I said completely out of context (or just twisting the hell out of it), calling me a racist, then commence to calling me a "cracker".

If you are going to assume all black people think white people are racist you are being racist. you are generalizing. if you said "why do SOME black people..." that would have been fine, but you chose to assume it is black people in general. Oh, and to me adding in "there are a lot of black people who are friendly..." changes nothing. It is like when someone tries to negate their racism by adding "but i have a lot of [insert race here] friends".

This stuff plays better for some Blacks as they seem to get more attention /better service than if they behave in an unassuming way.The days are numbered for this , however, as others are tired of genuflecting when there is no just cause.

Every racist insult that has ever been said to me has come from a white person, I guess that means I should generalize all white people as hating hispanics:|

Some do, some don't. In my experiences, you have the ones who are just downright insulting towards white and black people, while others don't act like morons and actually treat people with respect.

Well sorry but i live in hawaii which has one of the most diverse populations in the country and pretty much no one here is racist but like i said every black person always has some comment on how they've been treated unfair or that white people are racist.  And just for the record i'm not white

When they give you that kinda look just say "We ask everyone for their cards". If they don't believe you that's their problem...

I had something like that... I was working at blockbuster when I was in high school. I always ask for ID's because it's policy for one, and for security reasons. The person before this black man I was helping, I asked for their ID, finished the transaction and they left. The black guy came up and I did the usual, asked for the ID, and he looked at me. "You didn't ask for their ID..." I said; "Yes I did..." "No you didn't, you didn't ask for their ID, but you asked for mine because I'm black..." I said: "It has nothing to do that you're black, I always ask for ID" "NO YOU DIDN'T! I was right here when you did it, and you didn't ask for their ID so SHUT THE F**K UP!" My manager and I were like appalled and my manager is very calmly and said "....excuse me..." not as a question... and the guy stormed off. I don't want to say he accused me of being racist, cause I don't like to think negatively about that, because it's stupid. Especially that comment "Because I'm black huh?" comment is very warn out, old and very untrue in most cases.

Well I don't assume that anyone is racist, until you say something ignorant. I'm Egyptian, so I don't how you get that notion that every African-American is racist from just a few people.

So if most of the black people don't act like the jerk, that pretty much proves that black people don't always assume that white people are racists.

This thread is going to go the same way that all race threeads on OT go. Some people will whine about how black people assumed that they were racists, and will then accuse black people of being racist.

That's all fine and well, but if you do that, you'd be doing EXACTLY the same thing as the people who pissed you off. Please do not fall into that trap.

Yes, there are some black racists, and there are some white racists. Yes, there are some black people who always assume that white people are racists, and there are some white people who always assume that black people are racist.

But MOST black and white people are not like that. Other races aren't like that either. PLEASE do not destroy racial relations because you had a bad experience with a few black people. That really doesn't help, all it does is create more racial tension.
