something about old music is absolutely terifying. maybe its because how trippy the world was back then..or maybe its because it poorly recorded and the crackle and hiss add to the ambience. who knows. something about it is creepy though

1. The first one is sung by a castrated male (I'm not explaining what that means) which is kind of creepy

2. Fallout 3, nuff said

3. Most old music is pretty cheerful.

Hey now, most old music is really good. However those songs you posted are kind of creepy....

For the first its probably due to the overall sound and pitch of the guy singing it and about the guy who sung it (google him, i probably shouldn't go into detail here but it's pretty disturbing)

The second is creepy because of what it's about, just strikes me as strange. Probably the combination of older and fuzzy sounds make them creepy lol :P

I used to think that too... Until I found out...
they stole almost all of their really great songs from poor black men, and didn't give them any credit at all
I think older music, especially songs like the second one you posted, is awesome. The first one was creepy, especially the story of the guy singing it, but yeah... I love the feeling of older songs.

Actually yeah. It's going to destroy earth one day after all. Also I don't find old music creepy. It's less busy than modern music and the recording quality generally wasn't too good so you get that hiss and distinctive echo effect.

Great part of the "creepiness" of those particular recordings comes from the recording technology itself, which left the recordings with a characteristic sound.

Tiny Tim's version is also from '68 mind you. Anything that man sang had a tendency to end up a bit creepy what with his insane falsetto.

I have Moreschi's complete recordings (he only did a handful) and I find it quite interesting. It's an archaic form that is not really something that I find pleasurable to listen to, but it's interesting as a time capsule of sorts.

Think of all those people alive back then who are no longer with us in the living world. Quite a haunting feeling when I think about it.

Maybe that's why ghost movies often come with old music.

Get Rick Rolled at least thrice in your lifetime - I think your view would change drastically.

Seriously though - how can old music be creepy? Some of them perhaps but that's the same for the 2000s era - some music aren't really creepy but their so absolutely horrible that I feel my ears piercing , goosebumps erupts all across my body and I feel as though I've been put through a ghostly visage of the destruction of mankind - whilst others are stereotypical to the extence of which you can fall asleep before you can count the fourth sheep.

'Nuff said.

Old music isn't creepy, but old music can be bad, just look at the 60s. I don't consider drug indused music to be innovative in any way (i.e. Hendrix is very over rated as is Dylan and a lot of other 60s musicians). The 50s and 40s had some great music. Maybe you're just not used to it or the lack of processing (not putting down effects/processing since I'm a huge Ke$ha fan, but a lot of people are used to it now as the norm). Just check out some Frank Sinatra or Vera Lynn and you'll see old music isn't bad/creepy.

The second song was pretty good. Reminded me of something I saw in a movie once. You need to quit watching so many horror movies. They play songs like these in horror movies about ghosts sometimes or like in the Shining with Big Band era music from the 40's. Music is music. There's some good and some bad from every era. Either you like it or don't, but it isn't creepy except for some songs I watched on YouTube that were based on Halloween themes and were made strictly for Halloween and had creepy pics to accompany them.

The recording quality is extremely poor. You can almost tell what decade something was recorded in just by the quality alone.

Nah, the Original Black Sabbath is the best with those guys following behind them lol. Seriously though, all of them are fantastic bands and are all great examples of what great music is. What I would give to have todays music still be like that time period, where there were many bands that could be called "number 1". So many of today's people don't even appreciate it, which is depressing.

But more on topic, how old of music are we really talking about? I would say kinda creepy for the really old early 1900's stuff, but once the 50's hit I don't really find any of it creepy sounding.

Average, everyday people didn't listen to these songs back then. I'm pretty sure all of these weren't allowed on the radio, but it's still a very interesting find nonetheless!
