I heard that google was going to buy youtube for like 1.2 billion dollars or something but why?like i mean youtube is free and so is myspace. So why is youtube worth so much if youtube is free?
a lot of people use them, so a lot of people see the advertisements on these sites, so google can sell the add space on these sites for more, it's called capitalism, people make stuff, people sell stuff, people advertise stuff, other people buy the stuff.

again, if google owns youtube, then they gain the rights to sell advertisement space on the site, and since so many people see these adds companies who provide the adds are willing to pay more for the ad space, so google can charge enough to make up the large amount of money they spent, and then some.
The more hits a site gets, the more desirable it is to advertise on it. Youtube and Google and Myspace are likely the MOST VISITED SITES in the world. That means companies will pay more to put their stupid banner on them.
Because these sites own the markets in their genre. Having that many users gives a lot of power to influence. That alone is worth a lot. 1.2 billion is still a lot of money, but Google has money to burn.
Youtube is great but myspace is worthless. remember that people have all the time they want to make thier myspace page and that means that the cool clever guy or girl you see is not that but that they have neurotically planned thier image. Myspace is for losers that want to spent the rest of thier lives being fake and superficial.
