Why no original names?

OK, here's my rant for the day...why is it that users all over the net rarely have original names anymore? 

It seems every person I see on here is going to have some generic name of a tv or video game character, especially the popular ones, usually followed by some numbers.  For example (and I'm sorry if this is your online name), GokuSaiyan677 or Sephiroth666

Now I'm not saying my name is super original...but it is a little big more lol.  I happen to like Naruto and the character Aburame Shino, thus I am ShinoBoy.  But I picked my favourite, non-obvious character.  I didn't call myself NarutoBoy.

So here's the forum...vent or post ideas as to why names are so unoriginal these days.  And if you have a generic name, please explain.  Who knows, maybe there are some deep down answers to my question.

My nickname Verigar is a charachter from a book I liked a lot,called The Devil's Novice by Ellis Peters.I liked the charachter and I always use that name on the net.

About other people,I think that they just want to show their love about a game,a console,movie or whatever and because there are many that they might like the same game(e.g.Splinter Cell)they use the nick SplCellManiac(just a random example,sorry if anyone uses it)

There are original names. There are.
