...because the orthodox concepts of God no longer carry weight for them and they are uncertain if such a supernal being can exist without retaining some of the sensibilities and rational we feel are impertinent in society today.

Cute, but I'm agnostic because I doubt god exists but can't prove it. I can only presume god to be a fanciful character in a magical world full of bull doo, but I can't prove it so therefore I must give god the benefit of the doubt.

If a god was necessary to create us... what created god? And what created god's creator? It all must start somewhere. Andit's more likely that life just started.

A better question is... Why does anything exist? I guess because life found a way. The cells that make up life forms are what built the living being we see today. We are just nature'smachinery.

Because it is the responsibility of the believers to provide proof of their claims. Everybody is born an Atheist by default. Then you're misled and lied to as a child. If the lies take root you become a theist. Alternatively you can make up your own lies and believe in them. Self-delusion is actually often easier. Agnostics are simply closet theists.

So, next time you ask somebody "why don't you believe in my god", don't be offended if they say "Show me the proof for your ludicrous claims, I'm listening. No proof = you are a nutcase"

Most of us have heard this 'lame' joke before. Nonetheless many choose to answer the thread title seriously to give substance to your otherwise 'trollish' thread on account of people actually to make this forum work as a forum and not some troll repository.

No, the burden of proof is with the believers, not you. You have nothing to prove. You are either atheist or theist, choose one.

It does get very annoying when theists ask atheists to 'prove that God doesn't exist'. That's like asking a criminal defense attorney to prove that his client is innocent. The whole request violates one of the most important tenets of logic - the burden of proof is on the person who makes the initial claim, not the person who disgrees with it. The main theistic argument seems to essentially be "You can't prove me wrong, therefore, I am right." Completely illogical - not to mention irritatingly arrogant. Try and get 2 theists from different religions to give each other that argument - one big stalemate.

The fact is those who believe dont want to be told they are wrong and those who dont believe dont want to be forced into believing. Its our choice to believe or not believe in something. I hate when people force their religion on me, if im curious i will go to one of my many local church and check it out otherwise no thank you.

No, the burden of proof is with the believers, not you. You have nothing to prove. You are either atheist or theist, choose one.

Take a good look at the definition of agnostic and understand. Just because you THINK doesn't mean you know. This is why you would be an awful lawyer. You don't aknowledge the difference between what you think, what you know, what you think you know and what you can prove. You just want to believe.

Belief is not knowledge. Belief is illusion, delusion, adesire, a wish, a hope. According to logic god doesn't exist. But because I have no tangible proof to prove itdoesn't I can'tconclude he doesn't. I don't have proof, I have assumption and only idiot would acknowledge an assumption.

The existance of gods is improbable, but not proven. I'm not thiest nor athiest because it's all assumption and hope. I'm not dreamer. I don't believe, because I don't wan to believe. I WANT TO KNOW. I like reality, not fantasy. Realisticly the notion of deity is inconclusive.

I don't believe in deity. I think it's all a fantasy, but I can't prove it. Therefore I am agnostic. I don't belive, but what can I prove?

if athiests/agnostics were made that way, then they didnt have a choice, therefore we were damned at birth, and that means we dont have free will and dont make decisions. god makes them for us right?

If life could "just start" could not the same be true for god? As it is in science, there is no beginning. We mark the beginning of the universe at the big bang, but stuff exsisted before said big bang. Something could never come out of nothing. it has always been, as it could be with god.

It's impossible to disprove something when no evidence is presented. So it's no surprise that those foolish enough to try might fail.

That depends on what you consider evidence. There is tons of evidence for God, but that same evidence can be interpreted another way, so it's a matter of perspective. The only evidence people will ever accept (and in many cases, not even then) is seeing God right before their eyes, which simply will not happen until it's too late.

Like I said, it's a matter of perspective, but to me, nature, science, the vast universe, all of this is evidence for God. But, all of it can be explained with other methods, so it just depends on how you look at it.

There is evidence, but it can be interpreted another way. So, it really isn't much a matter of faith; Just a matter of faith in asingle interpretation.
