Pro: It's unseemly, and the said people probably don't like it. Cons: People might have to make a few donations....

Morally speaking we should give to the point of Marginal utility, which is defined as giving to the point where we are worse off than perhaps the people we were giving to were, seeing as we have the means to help ourselves back up. There are also, morally speaking, no cons. It is our moral obligation to help someone in need, someone who suffers from lack of food, hunger, shelter, due to the Kantian requirement of universality. Good GRAVY I love Global Ethics class.

Think of it this way... Would YOU want help if YOU were homeless, and had no money ? would YOU be happy if no one gave you nothing ? I highly doubt it.

Okay a cost/benefit analysis... Pros: Helping the homeless is morally the right thing to do (in many's eyes) Cons: Costs money So is the cost of a minor slip in your quality of living worth it to put a roof over someones head?

But I can't speak for the conservatives and libertarians among us...

Yes we should, why? To help people. What other reasons are really needed?

Cons: Nothing

Like any issue where you have people with some serious problems the more people we can help and make them healthy and productive the more possibilities there are for people to contribute to society.

libertarians aren't as crazy as you seem to think (based off your sig). they want people to help people help themselves instead of having to pay taxes to coddle ppl from cradle 2 the grave. its a very sensible point of view

Well we shouldn't help them by giving them money. Help them by giving shelter and helping them get off alcohol, herion and w/e else that may be doing. That being said I do hate the welfare state that Britain is becoming...

I'm conservative and I agree, I just don't think it should be a mandatory thing.

Many of the homeless have serious mental illnesses and can't provide for themselves without some form of guidance or assistance. Under the proper setting, many of these people would be able to contribute back to society.

Pros: reduced crime, reduced healthcare expenses, more productive members of society, fulfilling basic moral principles of decency. cons: may hurt people in their pursuit of ultimate evil.

Actually you can't. Whether a pro or con depends on your opinion.

Some homeless people are too far gone to be helped. It's best to stop it before it happens, but with the country like it is now that seems hard.
