[QUOTE="coolbeans90"]Really ? I didn't know that. But as another poster asked: why people named Richard called Dick ? Why they choose a dirty word ?They don't. They name their child "Richard."

I don't ever hear young people called Dick, just old people, probably because during one of said generations, the word took on that meaning. That one Dick ruined it for all the Dicks.

You meant Dick Cheney ? PS. Why the hell GS censored the word Dick in the title ?It's a very bad nickname. Also isn't Rich a nickname for Richard ?Zensword
It's the shortened version of Richard, I wouldn't call it a nickname. For example, Mike is the shortened version of Michael, but Mikey, or Mickey, is a nickname.
[QUOTE="airshocker"]It's a very bad nickname. Also isn't Rich a nickname for Richard ? Richard->Rick->Dick I just figured it was a natural evolution, like, Bulbasaur->Ivysaur->VenusaurPeople name their son RICHARD, which Dick is a nickname for.

I still don't understand how Richard turned into Dick.
Dick the Lion Heart sounds awfully strange to me.
Or, Robert into Bob for that matter....
[QUOTE="sune_Gem"][QUOTE="Zensword"] It's an excellent name for your son. Zensword
Either that, or breast.
Or Robert-> Boob It's actually: Robert--Rob--Bob--Boob.But dick's alright - some people can pull it off quite well :)poptartHuh-huh-huh-huh-huh....He said "pull it off."
I did go to school with a guy called Richard Head - no joke. Quite what the parents were thinking I don't know.
But dick's alright - some people can pull it off quite well :)

How exactly is a shortened version of a name not the same thing as a nickname?

At least "BOB" and "ROB" rhyme. Richard,Rich, Rick. Seems more like a spelling mistake than a nickname.EDIT:
Oh.
